Can't adjust cut height below the 4th setting

The blade height won't go below 4 and when I go to 3, the motor stops and I have to bang it on the ground to get it to start.  I make sure the deck is clear of grass buildup. I'm afraid there is something wrong with the electrical system and when I checked with Home Depot, they said they had to send it out to RLC in Illinois somewhere and it would take a month to get it back.  Not acceptable for a $500 machine.  You guys are sending me a new machine, but I am a bit wary about the problems the "Community" have proffered.

Sounds like you had an issue with your mower, and Ego is sending you a new one? Not sure what else you could ask for. If you were fundamentally unhappy with the product and did not trust it, you should have just returned it within your 90 days and moved on.

I'm not fundamentally unhappy with the mower, and your assumption is inappropriate.  I stated my situation and put it out there to advise the community.  Who the hell are you to tell me to move on.  Get a life.

Paul,

One thing about email and texts, sometimes what you are trying to say comes back wrong.  Now, that being said.  I'm sort of in agreement with the "semantics" of his message.  Home depot taking 30 days to repair a mower, in the summer?  Really?  EGO seems to be taking the only workable steps during this time of the year, and that is to ship out a replacement ASAP.

I could not go more than two weeks without cutting my warm weather grass.  It would grow too thick and tall.

I know the repairs take a while, but want to bet dealing with other companies would take just as long, and you would not get a brand new mower replacement.  I say if is close to the 90 day mark, return and exchange.

His issue was asking Home Depot for service, that will get you no where. All they can reasonably be expected to do is return/exchange at the local stores.

It does not sound like Ego told him to wait 30 days, which I agree would be unacceptable.

I hate to say this, but my personal view of HD is very low.  You are correct about their limitations.

Agreed, two weeks is an eternity to go without a mower during growing season. Especially if your grass was already due for a haircut when the mower quit.

Ego seems to be doing an awesome job swapping out mowers that are under warranty, but I think some customers are concerned about out of warranty service (that hurts to write as I am right this moment paying $320 for out of warranty replacement of a 7 month old iPhone), even though that is way down the road for most of us. I am guessing by then the repair network will be much more familiar with this still relatively new tech.

You have to think hard about how much you would really want to spend repairing a dated mower that could be replaced for $350 though. If it was really worth the time, effort, and cost, you can always rent one if you can't find one to borrow.

What kind of motor issue is affected by adjusting the height?

That's what I'm wondering... the only thing that comes to mind is higher loads being lower into the grass, but this still sounds strange.

That's why I called EGO.  They had no explanation and decided that shipping a new one was the best response.  Since the lower number  puts more strain on the mower, that might have something to do with the unit turning off.  Why banging it on the ground started it up,  would seem that something is loose.
