Will ego make a 2 stage snow blower?

I am about to buy a self propelled lawn mower. I am 50/50 on either a honda or the ego. They are both about $750 so price is not a deciding factor. I really want to replace my gas 2 stage snow blower with a battery operated one. Is there any updates or info on ego making a 2 stage?

I'm leaning towards the 8024 snow joe and the the honda because I refuse to have 2 large items that require different batteries. It's never a problem starting a mower in the summer but winter start on a snow blower can suck.

Thanks

For a season, I had the Snow Joe ION24SB  (the previous version to the 8024).  When the snow blower worked, it worked great. I didn't even mind having to purchase a second set of batteries so I could complete my driveway. A lot of instant torque on the impeller for such a tiny two-stage. However, the first Snow Joe arrived damaged (poor packing) and the next two I was sent died on me after using each one no more than two times. It's a common complaint for the auger motor to just stop working on both the old and new model and never start again. I give credit for Snow Joe being the first to put out a two-stage and their customer service was phenomenal...but I wouldn't recommend their two-stage. Besides the bad auger motor, the snow blower propelled forward too slowly for my taste. When snow conditions are right, that's the advantage of the single-stage EGO...you can clear your driveway  pretty quickly.

I'm in the same boat as you.  I got rid of my 25 year old gas snow blower this spring to force a purchase decision this year. If EGO doesn't come out with a better snow blower (a single stage self-propelled  would even be fine), I'll either have to go gas or hire someone to do the snow removal for me. It's a good sign when we want EGO to build more tools so we can buy more tools.

I’ve asked for the same a few times, a dual stage. The single stage EGO has its uses, and on a sloped driveway and wet snows it is starting to wear my back out. I’m going to keep it since it cost so much.

Who knows if EGO is working on something for next year. They seem to release variations of their other tools after around 2 seasons or so it seems.

I’m going to wait until next fall/start of winter before I decided to get a gas unit and hope EGO comes out with something self propelled and 2 stage or “inline 2 stage” like the gas toro I’ve been looking at.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled 2 stage snowblower.

So I see EGO has a couple different options for trimmers, blowers, and mowers. What about adding a big brother to the snow blower and making a compact 2 stage with maybe the capacity to hold 2-4 batteries?

I've seen people on EGO facebook asking for one and I know I'd be in line for one!

Can’t wait to see. If there’s no new release next winter I’m going to have to go gas, but still use the ego for lighter/less snowfalls.

I'm going to wait about 2 weeks to see what deals are out there for Memorial day. I'll be buying the honda if I don't hear anything from ego by then. I may just get a 4 wheeler or utv with a plow instead.

So hopefully they chime in with a 2 stage and I'll buy all ego.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt a snow blower will be announced at this time. Maybe Labor Day at the other end of summer if you are looking for a holiday tie in.

I'm really hoping Ego makes a 2 stage blower.  I'm willing to toss 1K or more at it.  This money can be had by ego if they just make one, otherwise, I'll be forced to go gas and that would be shame.

My neighbor pays me to do her driveway with my ego single stage. The last few snows we had were too much unless you go out 3 times or do to try to keep up. She offered to buy me any snowblower I want as long as I do her driveway for as long as she lives here.

Anyways I’m hoping ego announces a 2 stage next winter before I go get a bigger gas unit.

I live in NYC so I can probably get away with the single stage.  I live on a busy street so the snow plow pile is often 2-3 feet of hell.  I'm getting the two stage just for that.

I usually take turns with my neighbors.  I would never charge them money.  The neighbors usually make up to you in other ways.  But if I can get a monster 2 stage from ego, I'll do everybody's just for fun.

That would be pretty amazing. I have a corded toro powercurve 1800 and the motor whines, grinds, and gives off a burning smell while tackling the pile.

I have some videos on YouTube. One time it was blowing like 3" of slush. That's some heavy stuff. The ice at the end of the driveway has never caused me issues. And I live in the country across from an open field to the north and plow truck drivers that don't care where the snow goes. Check out some vids of it

Cool. Can you provide the YouTube link?

If a single stage can tackle such a tough job, I can only imagine what a two stager can do.

"cough cough"

I hope they can at least give us a heads up on if they are looking into the idea. Even if it's 2 seasons away. I'm sure the demand is huge, well past what a few people on here are asking for.

I'd like to bump up this thread again in hopes we hear from an EGO rep whether we'll see a new self-propelled snow blower, whether that be a two-stage or an in-line two-stage? Living in South Dakota, winter comes sooner than later and if I don't hear from EGO soon, I'm likely shopping for a gas powered snow blower this Fall.

I have their snow blower and live in upstate New York where we get the lake effect from Lake Ontario.  I contacted EGO last week regarding if they are planning to sell a two stage snow blower because Snow Joe already has a two stage, self-propelled snow blower.  Their rep kind of hinted that they might be in the future.  Let's hope they do.  Ego has the superior batteries.  It would help with the wet snow.

I’m waiting until fall, and if I don’t hear anything I’m going to pick up a gas also even though I already have the ego. I just need something with more power/self propell.

I really hope we hear something considering how many different variations of trimmers/blowers they have.

I would accept and wait if we heard something like this.....
Ego is working on a 2 stage that will be ready by fall 2018 but we are hoping to have it ready a year early for this winter....

I think at this point its going to be next winter. At this stage they would have to be past the testing and on to the supply and demand area in manufacturing. If they were this far they would have released info by now. Stores are getting rid of there summer products already.

We have a couple of weeks, after that I'd say its not going to happen this year.

I would love to see this as well.  I have the single stage ego and a 2 stage gas powered that I am dying to get rid off...just need ego to make the 2 stage as I am not going to buy another brand/battery.  My driveway is too steep to manage without it being self propelled.

There was a one-day sale on the current snow blower at Home Depot recently, so I jumped on that. It would now be _perfect_ if a new two-stage unit came out this season, since I was waiting for either a sale _or_ an upgrade.

I finally gave in and bought the EGO snow blower given that I had a HD 10% discount. I'm not taking it out of the box still the snow flies though...just in case of a possible return for a very hushed secret new snow blower by EGO is released.

I agree I went with asking for forgiveness as my 2 stage beast gave up the ghost this winter and I have no regrets about not going bigger. One 10 inch snow fall left me with a little more work but frankly the pros out weight the cons easily.

I received the snowblower for Xmas and was really excited to use it. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment for me. Given all the good reviews I’m guessing most of you have perfectly flat concrete driveways with no slope. Even with that I don’t know how anyone can blow anything more than perfectly fluffy snow with this machine. If you are coming from a two stage I am really surprised it worked for you. I was replacing a 20 year old two stroke single stage Ariens and I can tell you the Ariens significantly outperformed the ego. The main reason is the design and not the power. If you look carefully at the placement of the auger, it sits almost have an inch above the ground. Even tilting the machine back doesn’t close the gap any. Any snowblower I’ve ever owned has the auger almost touching the surface which helps dig out hardened snow plus it acts as a propulsion mechanism. I had the ego out for 30 minutes and could barely clear 1/8 of my driveway. Because it requires you to iise the scraper bar to dig into the snow it snags on any minor crack. Plus if you have hardened snow you have to force it through instead of it dragging you through it. I returned it the same day, brought Ariens to talk and it cleared my driveway in 20 mins with ease. I am a mechanical engineer and I am confounded by this design. I’m glad it worked for you though.

Use on packed snow, like snow that’s been driven on, will give mixed results. The scraper is solely responsible for clearing to the ground, and as light as the machine is, won’t chew through densely packed snow.

Best results with the Ego are to use it in snow that hasn’t been driven on, or in warmer weather been allowed to sit and turn icy.

I don't think a battery blower will have enough power for many years (maybe even up to 10 years) to even compare to a $700-1k gas blower. I have a feeling a comparable set up with an extra battery would cost more than 2k vs $700-1k and gas.

Found the trick to the gas blower if it doesn't start. Put a heater near it for about a hour and good to go, now that I insulated my garage I never have an issue with a cold start at all.

Snow joe has a two stage blower that gets decent reviews. I have a lot invested in the ego ecosystem so I’m not willing to go another direction at this point. I used to work for the department of energy so I know quite a bit about battery tech and I like ego’s batteries. I have several of their tools and have been pleased for he most part. What concerns me is that they claim to have over 100 engineers yet could not build a snowblower to compete with my old two stroke. This makes me question their ability to develop future tools that meet my needs...

I should also give the caveat that I moved and have a much smaller space to clear, which had a major impact on the purchase. Not having to deal with tune up's, gas, oil and the bonus of needing significantly less storage were all factors that were taken into consideration. My driveway has a bit of a grade so i tend to go back an forth rather than up and down but minor adjustment in routine were easy. I have had no problem clearing down to the concrete and to the fol following posters statement, yes it is very even slabs both on sidewalk and driveway which ease the overall use of the machine.

Coming from a 2-stage gas snow blower, I was quite pleased with the performance EGO's single stage snow blower. There was only one time I had difficulty clearing the end of the driveway with it. I have no inside information, but my gut tells me EGO will more than likely introduce a new snowblower for 2019-2020. I just don't know if that would be a new two-stage or a new improved single-stage Gen 2. So far none of the manufactures have been able to produce a reliable electric two-stage...so EGO may play it safe with just improving the single stage.
