J, is your mower out of warranty?  If it's the 3" long block zip-tied to the side of the motor, pretty sure that is a giant resistor.  Goggle'ing RX27-4H, returns search results for a ceramic encased wire wound resistor.

What troubleshooting has lead you to believe it is bad?  What other symptoms is your mower exhibiting?

Added a picture of the electrical harness; the big resistor is a the bottom of the picture.

None of Ego's mowers are out of warranty yet, although if J bought a second-hand mower it would be out of warranty.

That resistor is for motor ramp up i believe. Not quite sure though. Check the the resistance of it. Its more than likely a capacitor on the control board. I had one go bad on a mower i got on ebay. I wish i could buy a control board for it. But a 60v motor controller in ebay could work just as good. They are like 20.00. Of course you lose any system safeties in place on startup.

yes- that's it.  I have a handyman friend who thinks this might be why it doesn't start.  Would this be a cheap trial to see if that is the reason?   Thanks.

Breakdown of the 2nd half of the part number: "60WR5K", looks like it is a 60 watt (60W), and 5000 ohms (5K ohms).  Disconnect it from the circuit, and put a multi-meter across it, if it reads around 5K ohms, not likely your problem.
