When does the orange light come on

I have a 21" mower that came with a 5a battery.  I can mow my lawn twice with it.  I just got some other tools that came with 2.5a batteries.  I figured they would be adequate and make the mower a bit lighter.
When I am half done with the lawn on a 2.5a battery, the orange light comes on saying my batter is 75% (or is it 85%?) depleted.  But I have enough to finish the lawn.

Why is that?  I am wildly guessing that the mower sees I have only 1.25a left, and thinks I am using a 5a battery that is nearly depleted.  But that seems silly.
Any idea?

Red light means the battery has 15 percent charge remaining. Orange light means the mower is getting bogged down, but that should only last a couple of seconds (or until the mower stalls).

I'm not sure why it's coming on with enough runtime to finish your lawn.
