It looks like the 14" and 16" are compatible with the 18" chainsaw. Of course you'd need chains for those shorter bars.

Cheers, never occurred to me to look for the manual. 
i had the same question in mind. thanks.
but considering the blade and chains would cost me an extra 100 cad, ill stick with the 18. the difference is small.

I bought the CS1800 after shortly owning the CS1600. It’s worth the extra $50 to get the larger unit. The 14” bar does make the saw easier to maneuver if you don’t need the extra length for a particular job. EGO customer service can get you the adjustment plate to put on the 14” if you want to do quick bar change overs. The plate is pretty affordable.

Good thread. Don't know how relative it is but on my firewood saws I really like a 3 to 1 ratio...CC's to inches. So if Ego claims this is equivalent to a 42cc saw then a 14" bar might be ideal....
