I wanted to make Ego my go to electric tool provider but I really really need a pole hedge trimmer. I still can't believe that it wasn't in the initial set of power head attachments. I feel like that is way more useful than a pole pruner saw. Anyway, I just ordered my HLA65 from a Stihl dealer near me. Since I need to reinvest in batteries and chargers, I most likely wont buy any more Ego stuff. Why would I buy an Ego chainsaw when I could get a Stihl? Its too bad, I like the Ego stuff, but I don't want to have to maintain two sets of batteries and chargers.

I am also in need of a long pole hedge trimmer and was very surprised and disappointed  to see EGO  has it available in Europe  but not in the  USA.

I just got back from  the Stihl dealer and am interested in the same  HLA65 unit. I wanted to see how well it is balanced but they did not have one in stock to check out. I'm trying to hold out  for EGO but can't wait much longer.

Yeah, I went to three dealers and it appears nobody around me stocks it regularly (or the 85 for that matter). But I have watched a number of youtube reviews by guys who are pros and nobody has anything bad to say about it. Also, I can't wait any longer, my hedges that are too tall to reach with my Ego are getting overgrown. The good news is most Stihl dealers can get anything they don't stock within 48 hours usually. So, hoping to have it by Wednesday at the latest.

Yeah ego failed on this offering also.

How much was the Stihl?

HLA65 is $329. Add an AP300 battery and the fastest charger the total is around 600. So, initial investment is steep but the ability to get some very high quality and high performing Stihl tools is what also kept me interested.
If Stihl had this much battery stuff when I initially bought Ego I may never have gone with Ego in the first place. The Ego stuff is nice but Stihl has a great reputation.
Hell I have a 30 year old Stihl gas chainsaw that still cuts like a beast. I'm fighting the urge to get the Stihl battery chainsaw, but the ease of a battery version has me very interested, plus I have a lot of tree and branch issues at my new house every time there is a storm.

Keep in mind echo has a good reputation also. Their battery tools are a joke.

Good luck.

Initially I bought my wife the Ryobi 40 volt blower. It's fine for the small jobs we have. Am debating whether to hold out for the Ego Pole saw attachment or get the Ryobi Powerhead and tree pruner. Anyone tried the Ryobi? I heard it's bad on hardwoods like Oak? I have a Coral tree which is hard as heck.

Again biased here cuz I think Ryobi is going to fill the ocean with plastic cuz tools are throw aways.

But I would use a hand saw before I used a Ryobi tool. It's all about the batteries.
A chain cuts, simple as that. The power behind it is what you want. Battery differences will determine if it bogs down due to too much power drain on the battery. I'm sure Ryobi batteries get as hot as the rest of them as no others have pcm wrapped cells, and dissipation of heat by design. They are brick which makes the center cells get hotter than the surrounding batteries.

While egos delivery or home depot's was bad this year. Fact still stands that they are great tools, as long as you can get a hold of one.

But if it's light work. Sure, I'm sure the Ryobi may work for you...

Order it from mowermagic.co.uk if they sell it in the UK.  Mower Magic ships to the United States.

Jason,

Once you get your HLA65 I would appreciate any comments you may have. Thx.

Jason, I'd be willing to bet that Ego's 16" chainsaw is the equal of or superior to the Stihl battery unit, and for half the price.

Agreed that Ego (more like Home Depot) dropped the ball by not yet offering the pole hedge trimmer. I don't agree that Stihl makes better tools just because they're twice the price.

Be careful buying on name alone. I'd like to see a Head-to-head between some Stihl equipment and Ego's tools. I somehow doubt the cost difference could be justified. ;-)

Good point, given that Echo has a good outdoor power equipment reputation, but the 58v offering is a failure due to lack of heat management in the battery.

That among other things, such as more focus on marketing "lies" and less on actual build quality.  Echo pretty much kicked itself in the nuts.

Maybe you could purchase it here
http://www.mowermagic.co.uk/acatalog/EGO-Cordless-Multi-Tool-Hedge-Trimmer-Attachment---51cm-EGHTA20...

Others have reported being able to get products shipped to the US thru this UK distributor.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled never available online and home depot doesn't sell in store.

Where do I find this power head if Home Depot never has it available?  This shouldn't be your only source to sell.  You should allow other box stores to sell.
