Official Response
A few thoughts.
Underside of the mower has too much grass clipping build up.
Trying to mow too high of grass at too low of a setting.
Trying to mow too wet of grass.
Trying to force the mower through too much grass too fast.

Try those same batteries on another tool to determine whether it's the tool or batteries problem.

Given that this "just started", and that it happens to both your batteries, in inclined to say the device is at fault. Are you noticing decreased cutting power? Check that everything spins freely (batteries removed!). If you feel extra resistance, there's a the problem. If it spins OK, could be some kind of internal short.
