I wanted to trade my Power+ 21" Self-Propelled Mower for the Power+ 21" Self-Propelled Mower with Peak Power. Is there a trade-in program with EGO or Home Depot?

I am thrilled to see that new larger batteries are coming soon, but I have to wonder if I will be able to justify the cost of buying one. The 7.5ah battery would enable me to cut my whole yard on a single charge, but it would leave me with little use for my 4.0ah battery. I have tried using it in the hedge trimmer, my only other tool, but much prefer the weight of the 2.0ah battery.

On a related note, I have told many friends and family members about how fantastic Ego products are, but the prices for a tool and battery are prohibitively expensive. Of course there may be a flood of used batteries coming on the market soon, but it would be a big risk to replace equipment with Ego products that rely on a used battery of unknown condition with no warranty.

Ego could solve both problems by offering a trade-in program, issuing a coupon or credit toward a new battery in exchange for your current battery. Ego could test these used batteries and resell them with some sort of warranty or quality guarantee. They shouldn't cannibalize new battery sales significantly, but would enable a cheaper entry price for new customers. The core tools without a battery are very affordable, but the additional $100 for a battery and charger doubles the price of a first Ego purchase. A $20 price break for a certified used 2.0ah battery could be just enough to win over a customer who balks at the price when a new 2.5ah battery is included.

Because of shipping costs, this would probably need to be an in-store trade-in program coordinated with Home Depot. (Logitech has offered a similar program at Best Buy, where customers can bring in their current product for an instant discount on the latest and greatest version.) Perhaps new ground for Ego and Home Depot, but definitely not unprecedented, and I know Home Depot already has established reverse/inbound logistics.

So a trade-in program would drive sales for new batteries, but also entice new customers and grow the Ego ecosystem (Ego-system?). This would add value for both current and new customers, as well as increase market share and revenues for Ego. The proverbial win-win-win.

In summary, I really want a discount on a new 7.5ah battery!
