Troubleshooting string problem...Even after one "bump" the string kept extending and used a whole spool in a few minutes.  Anyone have any ideas why it won't stop releasing?

There's a spring that keeps the spool pressed down so it locks in place.  Maybe the spring is missing?  Or there could be some sort of debris trapped between the spool and the head body that keeps it from locking into place properly?

Just thinking out loud.  Let us know what you find if you look into it.

It doesn't even have to be debris—I had a similar issue after trimming some juicy tree-like weeds and blackberries that were mounting an assault on our backyard coming over and through the picket fence. Took the spool apart and found that everything was just gummed up with all the sticky residue. Once I wiped it clean and reassembled the spool, it worked perfectly again.

So i've finally gotten around to checking it out and sure enough, I took off the spool, then popped off the next part in line and guess what?  no spring?  My husband swears he hasnt opened that part up.  But it did work correctly the first few times.  Guess I'll just order another spring and see if that works!  Thank you!  BTW, nothing about that in the manual, just saying lol

Where did you get a replacement spring?
