I can't remove the head

First time putting the string into one eyelet and just barely was out the other eyelet when i pressed the reload button by accident (should've removed the battery!). The short string got wound up inside and I couldn't pull the string out from the longer side. So I tried to remove the head by pushing the tabs but I can't pull the lower part of the head off to remove the string. Is there a "secret" to pushing the tabs? Why are they indented and not flush with the surface of the side of the lower head? Feels like I'm not pushing them in enough. Not ergonomically friendly?Help!

Best tool ever! A gentleman on here told me about it It’s at a hardware store c clamp.
I did the same thing. My hand strength is not what it was. I’ve used it on other things but be care if you use it on plastic mugs

Try pushing one tab in at a time to release the head.

I had the identical problem -- extremely difficult (and I still have some hand strength) -- including trying to push one tab at a time.  I ended up taping protruding pieces of wood over the tabs, then used a bar clamp to press the wood.  In essence a home-made C-clamp.  But it appears to be a very frustrating design flaw.

The c-clamp pops it right off. And helps me with some plastic cups I love it

I use a screw driver to push in and lift up the tab one side at a time - easy fix for this common problem.

No way you should need tools to remove the head. Ego needs to fix this.

One tab at a time  works.  However, last time I did it I could not get the tabs to go back into the openings.  I discovered that they needed to be bent back away from the head so that they would return into the openings.  I think that EGO needs to redesign this item.
