String Trimmer Attachment constantly releases more string!

I have the string trimmer attachment and the first couple times I used it, it worked great. But ever since I had to reload more string, it doesn't work right. I know I loaded the string correctly because I read the manual and watched videos. The problem is the string never stops coming out now. I have the strings at a decent length, not hitting the guard when it spins, I pull on them to make sure its locked, and within 10 seconds of use the string comes out and hits into the guard. I cannot get it to stop?

This is the trimmer attachment for the multi-tool? If you can, could you post a photo of the trimmer head?

An exploded view of the trimmer head assembly to show the spring, among other parts.

Oh, one more thought. Have you tried buying a preloaded spool and installing it just to see if a preloaded one would work fine? I don't have the multi-head system so I'm assuming the preloaded spool for the stand alone trimmers is the same as for the multi-head sytem.

Alexis, the only thing that comes to mind is that perhaps you wound the string in the wrong direction?

There are arrows on the head that indicate which direction to wind, and if the unit in question is the attachment for the Powerhead system the trimmer spins counter clockwise, so the head winds opposite the way most would. Just a thought. :-)
