Steel deck higher rpm

Iam trying to decide between the steel deck and dual port but it’s making my head spin. On one hand I like the 1200 watt motor and improved self propel feature of the dual port. However, I don’t need two batteries for my lawn and it’s kind of dumb but I like the look of the steel deck more. Also, in the manuals the steel deck is showing 3000 RPM non load vs dual ports 2800. I wish ego would post all the specs, it would be so much easier. I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Anyone have a comment on the RPM thing? It seems like the only thing that hasn’t been covered.

My comment may seem like a bit of a non sequitur— but I would reconsider buying ANY EGO products.

My lawn mower, a year old and still within warranty has stopped working — and it is IMPOSSIBLE to contact customer service. I am not happy with this company.

Hey Lance, If you've been trying to contact EGO this weekend, they are likely closed for Easter. You might try calling Monday morning first thing.

Lance, which model do you have and by not working do you mean the mower completely stopped running?  I haven't had any issues contacting EGO.  I've called them maybe 3 or 4 times and get the same girl (probably in her 20s) every time.  Maybe because I'm 20 minutes from the Chervon plant they automatically give me someone so I don't show up at their doorstep!

Thanks Thomas — Well, I take back my earlier comment. Although it took three days, EGO called me back today (Saturday) and set up repair/service appointment with Home Depot . I called seven times Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and never connected — so that is a bit problematic.

The mower is model number LM2100SP purchased June 1 2018. Appears to be electrical starter issue. Hope this will resolve the problem because otherwise I love the machine (and have a 1/4 acre lawn in Arlington that needs cutting)!

Cheers,
Lance

Thomas, it's unclear exactly what you're looking for in a comment. It seems like you know what you want. I'd encourage you to buy the steel deck mower because you like the looks of it and it has higher rpm (it seems like that is what you are saying and that the higher rpm is important to you).

Mike, if I know one thing it's that looks aren't everything.  Haha.  I'm no engineer but a higher RPM may not be beneficial in a mower if it's easily bogged down.  Higher wattage essentially means more horsepower.  There seems to be a lot of commenters who have a mechanical background so I guess I was asking people to comment on the value of higher RPM and any other general comments regarding the two mowers. Higher RPM in theory would help with an uneven cut.

Also, I find it odd that ego would put a larger motor in one mower but not the other, especially when the perception is that the steel deck is for more rigorous applications.  Also, if it is true that the dual port has an upgraded self propel transmission and the steel deck doesn't, that is also baffling given the perception of the steel deck and they were released together.

EGO isn't infallible as they have made other odd engineering choices (many in the snowblower) so I want to make sure I know everything about what I am getting considering they don't release all of the specs for their products and these two mowers are not available in home depot stores.

I'd be more inclined to go with the steel deck, especially if you don't think you really need the "peak power" of the dual-port. I sort of feel the dual-port would be more of a novelty for me while the steel deck perhaps is more practical. Either way, I'm personally happy with my "normal" LM2100SP.

EGO’s Representative sent this statement out this summer.

Hello EGO Community! We’d like to take this opportunity to clear the air regarding our new Dual Battery Mower. Since there has been a great deal of interest and a bit of confusion surrounding this mower, let’s jump into the facts straightaway.

-This mower’s motor is brushless.
-This mower is rated at 1200W.
-This mower’s PeakPowerTM technology delivers more torque, longer run times, and a more efficient power draw.
-This is the most powerful brushless motor in the entire EGO Power+ mower lineup.

You’ll want to note that all of these statements have been confirmed by our engineering team. Also, the Steel Deck Self-Propelled Mower is rated at 1000W. Our apologies for any misunderstanding.

Thanks Bill. I have seen that. The wattage is useful but I would rather see torque numbers given egos claim to equal that of a gas mower. Generally a 1000 watt motor puts out 1hp equivalent so hopefully that is not the case as my average sized gas mower is around 4 hp. The stated rpm of the steel deck is higher as well so that confounds things further...
