Smoke on self-propelled Ego 56V 7.5 Ahr battery

I purchased this from Home Depot a month ago.

1. The battery arrived 25% charged, but magically got to 100% in about 10 minutes, cautiously I mowed about 500 sq. ft. before it died. Does no better after any charge.

2. The mower started smoking today, and battery ran too hot after about 15 minutes, twice, after an hour break. Steady red light, had to shut it all down, then gave up, and came inside.

It looks like it's back to Home Depot for me to get my $600 back.

Waste of my time, it will NOT mow the 13,000 sq. ft. I was promised, 5,000 of that is only seeded so far.

What a joke.

Thanks for nothing Ego. Good thing I kept the box, although it will be a pain to package it all back up to get my money back. Maybe the irony would be if Ego would refund the gas it will take to drive back to Home Depot to take this back.

Raechel, that definitely sucks.  However, your experience is certainly the exception, not the rule... I can't remember anyone posting that experience here before.

If you are willing to give the mower a chance you could either pack it up and exchange it at Home Depot, or you could give Ego's Customer Service a call.  If they determine the only problem was the battery, they could have a new battery shipped to your door in a few days.

Judging the performance of this mower using it with a defective battery is unfair, both to the mower and yourself!  Most people are thrilled with these mowers, and I'm sure you would be too if yours was working properly. 

If it were me I'd give Ego a chance to make it right before returning it.  You may be very glad you did! :-)
