At HD Canada the 21 Ego lawn mower SP is sold at C$900 while it is sold US$550 ( equivalent to C$750) at HD in the States. A significant difference of C$150 or 20% !!! HD should believe Canadians are stupid ! There are other good wireless lawn mowers...look at Costco Canada

I did a sanity check at Amazon Canada.  Nothing good to report.  Apparently Amazon Canada does not sell Ego.  They had one 21 SP for $869 Canadian from a secondary seller.  One place in the description it had a 7.5 battery and in the specs it said 5.0 battery.  Not good, but better than the second option.  That secondary seller had the LM2000-S, 20 inch non-self propelled, no battery or charger included for (drum roll please) $2111.76 Canadian!

One thing that comes to mind, is the model that you are seeking sold in the store or do they have to order it in?   I could get a 21 non-self propelled for $449 in the store.  I wanted the lighter 20 inch model which had to be ordered in.  It was $499 (free shipping) if I pick up at the store.

Maybe time for a road trip.

Egocentric, I totally agree Amazon Canada's prices for many items appears to be in the Stratosphere  - even when compared to Amazon USA. As you mention who in their  right  mind would pay $2111.76 for a lawnmower they can get for $900.00 at HD!! Unfortunately  many items are not sold to Canada from Amazon USA  (it will say does not ship to Canada) as I guess they are not allowed to sell duplicate items. Looking elsewhere i.e. eBay is usually a much better idea.

Don't know if it will work but PayPal is a payment option in the US HD pages.   They also give you about month to pick the item up at the store, so its not like you would have to drop everything and run off to Massena.

Paypal wont work for canadian resident.  Already tried.  Once you click paypal you cant login because our paypal account is registered in Canada.   This is specific to HD usa because other online websites in the USA (for example B & H photo video) works for paying with paypal.

Ha!  They got you coming and going.  International geopolitics is destroying lawns all over Canada.  Well all you can do is contact that long lost US cousin and meet them at the border.

No, seriously HD Canada and possibly Ego should be taken to task here.  I would consider another brand at a different retailer.  That sucks if you already own some Ego equipment and want to share batteries and chargers.

Perhaps you can launder the purchase through the Cayman Islands.  Yacht trip.

I've been highlighting the Home Depot Canada pricing issues here for a long time. If you look at some products, like ordinary power tools, the prices are usually competitive with US prices given the exchange rate, and sometimes cheaper.

Ego's products are consistently overpriced. $900 for the SP mower is insane, as is the $560 price of the 7.5Ah battery, the $500 price of the 5Ah backpack blower kit, and the $950 price of the 10Ah snowblower kit, which sells for the same price as the SP mower kit in the US.

HD Canada seems to treat Ego more expensive products like some super premium, uber-expensive stuff that there would be little demand for. Well, one way to limit the demand is to keep he price high, I guess!

Makes no sense to me.

Patrick/Egocentric, where are you located? I'm in Ottawa so the border is only an hour away. Pretty convenient when it comes to NOT giving my money away at Canadian retailers who, by the way, lobby our government to keep the import tax threshd artificially low at $20... compared to the $800 US citizens can import tax free.

Oh Canada! ;-)

The Kobalt mower is a pretty good mower, though the handles could use some work. It does a decent job.  If you can find it, Greenworks Commercial mowers and Snapper XD mowers are pretty good too.  I'm not sure I'd recommend the Redback one, it is pretty new, but Redback comes across to me as a very cheap brand.  It might be worth a try, but I'm not convinced that it would leave you satisfied for long.

Yeah, I just took a closer look at some of Redback's stuff and I already don't like the design of the battery.

There is a Greenworks 21 80 volts at C$650 on sale at Canadian Tire (my favorite store ;-) ) it comes with 2 batteries. It seems to be very similar to the Kobalt

I believe they are the exact same mower, just rebranded as Kobakt for Lowes.

Before buying the $900.00 expensive EGO Self Propelled 21 Inch Mower at Home Depot 2 weeks ago in Winnipeg, I considered the Greenworks TwinForce 40V Lithium Cordless Lawn Mower, 20-in on sale at Canadian Tire for $499.00.  But many folks complained about the Twin 10" Blades cutting the lawn with a mohawk cut effect i.e. leaving a strip of uncut grass in the middle of the cut between the 2 Blades. Also 10 inch blades - not so sure about them.  The 2 - 40 Volt Batteries are a great idea though - when first one fails the second one automatically takes over supposedly lasting for up to 70 minutes!!

Also had a serious look at the swivel front wheel steel deck Worx Mower with hose washout port at Costco ($699.00) but its Battery life is rated pretty low - less than 30 min - even though you do get 2 Batteries. Seems like they have pulled this mower off of their listings lately.

Yes Home Depot prices are indeed inflated for Canada, and can't seem to find so far here that New Multi-Head EGO String Trimmer, Pole Saw, Lawn Edger as well as the new Steel Deck Mower in Canada.  It seems the only other option is to take a trip to Fargo, North Dakota about 2 hours drive away, even at US Funds these units would likely be cheaper then when they ever get to Canada, wonder about the warranty though??

I agree something is out of whack with the pricing, so either go with another brand or do the road trip, but I think the warranty is worth looking into prior to the road trip. I have no experience with across the border warranties. It would be interesting to know why the price is so much higher. BtW Ego requests a scan of your receipt when you register your tool on line. Good luck with your mower regardless of which way you go., It's a lawn mower not a life philosophy!

Yes, here Norh in Quebec, I still have 2 or 3 weeks of delay before the first cut is required so will wait....never know, maybe with this post, Ego and HD will talk together and adjust their price in Canada ? Or maybe HD will put the product in a big promotion ? Othewhise, will give a chance to other product....thanks

Ego honors the warranty in Canada even if you buy in the US, as long as you buy from an authorized retailer.

Thanks for the reply Blue Angel.  So if the Mower or String Trimmer is purchased at Home Depot USA would you be able to bring  / return it to Home Depot Canada if something went wrong?

I've never tried but I doubt it. You could call and ask them to be sure, but I'd be very surprised if they did.

I bought the Redback 120v at Costco.ca..should be delivered this week. Its price in Canadian $ is on par with US $ Price. The spec of the lawn mower are impressive ( full details on HD in the US) while no review yet. I would have pick an Ego product instead but can't accept to pay the Canadian premium...

Yup.been there and wondered why we are always paying more. On everything.
I'm but 30 minutes to the border and probably about an hour to the closest US HD; but...
.and remember that box is 4X2X2.5ft.

Facts: You need to be in the states 48hrs for the 800$ Ca duty exemption. anything less and you pay taxes.
(and maybe duty as it is based on the original place of manufacture= China ...but not too sure about that.)
Even though you can claim back the US purchase tax with a lot of paperwork, you will pay both US at purchase & then CA tax at border if it is just a short stay.

Add price of  Gas, food, time and wear and tear for about  100$ savings?I just decided to bite the bullet and purchase locally. Any problems and I go to my local store and get some service.
What i don't understand is the delay in getting products here. I want to buy the Power head system and it is not available in Canada. Or even ETA!
Furthermore, it is  not even stocked in US stores so how does one go about getting it shipped to a US store and then driving down to pick it up?

Now if your Mr T fulfills his campaign promises and the us imposes penalties and duties for imported products the price differences may be reversed! And either Ego will be US made or cost more $US

I agree that even though I'm a 45 minute drive to the border, this process is not worthwhile. Having said that, while I would like to purchase an ego mower, the ridiculous pricing in Canada is a significant barrier.

I drive around 1h30 to get my EGO stuff from the states (Montreal to Cornwall-Massena).  Well worth it for the price difference.  I also try to gage my fuel tank to be at minimum so I can fill up cheaper.  No tax when buying from an online USA store to ship it to massena and only get dinged 5% at the border since I am from Quebec and crossing through Ontario border.

Interested so they don't ding you for duty at the border? I live In the Toronto area so I'd get hit with HST 13% if there was no duty.

Also, when you order from on an online US store to ship into Massena, do they ship for free? Do you keep a PO type box or do you use a service to hold packages.

Thanks.

Yeah since you live in Ontario you will probably get 13%.  I use a service called Kinek.   www.kinek.com
Works wonders and I have been using it for years. You basicly get an adress with youre unique kinek member #.   You have a choice of several drop off points anywhere.  Always around 5$ to get youre stuff depending on weight.

I use My US Address, a service in Ogdensburg NY. $5/pkg and they hold for up to one year. Way better than the UPS store, which was $5/week when I stopped using them.

Sounds like this is a good option if I want an Ego mower...I may have to give this a shot.
