Shipping to Alaska

I currently have three tools, three batteries, and three chargers. All of these were bought at Home Depot. At first I tried to order these off Amazon so they would just be shipped to my house, no dice. I assumed it had to do with the lithium batteries.

Recently, I tried to order the Hedge Trimmer HT2400 bare tool off Amazon since I have three batteries. I got all the way to checkout and was a little surprised that they wouldn't ship to Alaska. I'm not sure what the issue is this time. I've ordered everything off there from kettle bells to gun cases, so I know it's not a size or weight issue. Since I hit a roadblock, I went to Home Depot's site. Same deal. Got all the way to checkout and they don't ship to AK either. HD does not carry these in the stores up here either.

I called HD and asked if I could order it over the phone and the lady reiterated that they do not ship this to AK. I asked if I could ship to store and they said that I could, but I would have to come into a HD and fill out some paperwork. It would also take 4-6 weeks. It has to be ordered through Washington State, then barged to AK. I would need to fill out tax exempt paperwork in order to get the price listed on the website.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to go through this exercise or just order it off eBay. My question is, if I order the hedge trimmer off eBay, will the tool still be eligible for a warranty?

Also, does EGO plan on increasing their distributor base? I would be nice to be able to go through Lowe's, True Value, Ace, or Sears as well. Or to be able to order directly from EGO.

Hi Bobby,

I don't have any advice about shipping to Alaska from HD or Amazon. I bought my Ego hedge trimmer as a used item on EBay. It was in barely used condition and ended up being quite a savings over buying it new. If you were to do the same, at least you wouldn't be paying full retail price for a product with no warranty.

Here is Ego's Warrany Policy page, which also lists their Authorized Retailers:

Since this is a lithium ion battery there might shipping restrictions and has to ship by ground/boat/horseback/bear. :)

Wonder if HD has the ego tools all classified to have hazardous contents? Possible they can make an exception for items without the battery.

You would think so. I would hope that Amazon would do the same. I've run into this same issue with other tools as well. I guess that's one of the things you have to get used to when you live this far north.

Yeah. The summers arent worth the winters. I lived there for 3 years in anchorage. Tough place to live.

Hopefully Ego can find a way to get their snow blower up there!
