red light on mower - ego 21 self propelled mower 7.5ah

Today I mowed as usual with a charged 7.5Ah battery.  I purchased from Home Depot an ego 21 self propelled mower with the 7.5ah battery and charger.  The grass was higher than usual but the mower worked fine until near the end the red light came on.  I still had 25% of the lawn to mow but I decided to let the mower rest with the battery out.  I cleaned the undercarriage of any debris.  However I noticed that the mulching insert in the back of the mower deck was dislodged due to some debris so I cleaned it off and put it back in.  After an hour I checked the battery button and noticed that it was showing green so I put the battery back in and started to mow the remaining portion.  After  1 minute the "red light" on the mower turned on even though the battery button showed "green".  I continued to mow thinking that the mower would turn itself off momentarily.  I mowed for another 15 minutes with the red light on the mower still on and finished the yard without running out of battery power.  So my question: Do I have a defective circuitry in the mower unit?  Why does the red light stay on even when the battery still has a charge?

I put the battery on the charger and it charged itself up within an hour - no problem.

I would appreciate some advice before I do some damage to the mower.  Thanks.

All is normal. The red light means you are getting close to all the battery will give. It usually runs another 10 to 15 minutes in my mower.

I had basically the same experience with my 21" push model (5 ah battery). I only had about 10 minutes, or so, left of mowing, I was probably close to an hour in, when the red light came on and I just kept mowing and the mower ran the whole rest of the time no problem. I put the battery on to charge after that one episode and it charged fine. Mower and battery have continued to perform perfectly.

Yep, this is covered on the manual. A steady red light means the battery has less than about 15 percent charge remaining. How long the mower continues to run is going to depend on which battery you're using and your mowing conditions, but 10 minutes or so seems about right for the 7.5Ah battery.

If the battery does die, just letting the mower sit won't do anything. Pop that battery on the charger and you'll be good to go in just a few minutes. You don't need to completely recharge it to complete the job at hand.

Thanks for the advice.  However in the past I would get a yellow light on the mower and then it would run say 10 minutes before turning off.  This is the first time I have seen a red light before a yellow light.  Thanks!
