I purchased a used 4.0 56 volt ego battery . I own 2 ego products with 2 chargers and 2 batteries. I was hoping to get this 4.0 to use as an extra battery . It will not charge on either charger . Does anyone rebuild these batteries ?

Have not heard of anyone rebuilding these.  Most times the Battery Management System (BMS) is the sub-component that goes bad, and that entire unit is encased in some sort of epoxy, both for waterproofing, as well as to prevent tampering.
There is a YouTube video of a guy who did a manual cell balance (e.g. he charged a single cell).  But most times, the cells are fine and have plenty of life left in them.

Ego will tell you that if the battery is defective, then you should recycle it by calling the 800 number on the battery.

Problem Statement: Ego batteries are expensive.  And recycling a good condition battery case and cells (assuming BMS board is broken) is very much a waste.
Possible Solutions: Ego refurbish and resell batteries.

Recommendation (Ego Team): Please evaluate a service to rebuild batteries.  It could look something like, the customer sends in a battery and fee to evaluate.  Upon evaluation, provide the customer an estimate to repair.  Or if not cost effective, then issue them a credit (e.g. $50 for 1P, $100 for a 2P, $150 for a 3P), toward the purchase of a new battery.

great proposal the warrantee doesn't cover all situations and this would be a good customer support service. even make the BMS board available for purchase with some simple schematics.
