If they won't, you just have to remind them that you could simply return it and buy another.

They won't give you the battery no matter how much you remind them. After mine was shipped I discovered the + battery promotion. I called EGO and the CSR said it's Home Depot's promotion and nothing they can do. I called Home Depot and they said it comes from the manufacturer under a different SKU and nothing they can do. When mine is delivered I'm taking it to my local store and sending it back. I already ordered the one with bonus battery. The sensible thing to do would seem to be to give me a store credit for the battery, but no one has the authority. It will take three freight trips, Calif.-Ind and back and forth, to deliver my mower, plus an extra week's wait for me. I'll bet I'm not the only one who will do this. To make matters worse, Home Depot has both offers up online. You see the regular deal first, and scroll down five mowers to see the bonus deal. It actually looks like they are hoping to sell it without the bonus battery first and hope you don't notice the better deal. The right thing to do is only show the bonus offer mower. It seems a little shady to do otherwise. I'll bet I'm not the only one a bit put off by all this. Run a great deal, and then risk alienating customers. I realize Home Depot is never going to be Amazon, but at least make the effort.

Clint, we're sorry that this happened to you and that is definitely not how Home Depot is supposed to handle this promotion.  EGO does not have the inventory for this sale which is why our customer service team can't help you.  It's all housed with The Home Depot.  We supply them with everything they need and normally, there's no issue with a promotion like this.  It's unfortunate that you had such a bad experience.  We're reading mostly good experiences online and in store for this sale.  We hope you are able to get what you need quickly with a resolution with your local Home Depot store.

Thanks for the apology. That's a first. I'm waiting for the mower I will return to be delivered today. I don't expect a problem returning it. I printed out my confirmation of purchase with the return bar code on it. My mower + package is supposed to be available for pickup June 1, so another 8 days, the same day as my new EGO trimmer. I still think it's a bad practice to have both offers online at the same time, but that's on Home Depot. Perhaps you could mention this to someone with some authority if you agree with me. I've discussed this quite a bit with others and everyone agrees with me. BTW, one of the people I mentioned it to ordered the $199 string trimmer with bonus battery the next day. He had been shopping a B&D and had never heard of EGO. I sent him a link to the CR review.

You are so right Mr Murray I saw them 21 inch mower online same mower two different ads on + free extra battery one wIthout.
+ free battery was out of stock I called CSR told me to go to store and order get coupon for free battery
I did this ordered online from store (THIS MOWER CAN ONLY BE BOUGHT ONLINE) Coupon did not print 5/31/2016
Home Depot CS was nice but they don't know how to make them free battery happen.
I will call EGO tomorrow but I doubt that they will be able to help.
My only chance is to speak to a HD maanger tomorrow to see if they wI'll honor since mower
Was bought before 6/1/2016.
The HD store has the 2.0 batteries on their shelf.
I will see what happens and keep u posted

I've done a return/repurchace by just showing up with the receipt. You might want to verify that as an option, it would save you lugging the mower back to the store.

I had an ego mower on a cart on my way to the checkout when I had a brief bout of pre-buyers remorse, as I hadn't put in enough research yet.

Glad I waited a day, as I've made my decision and I'll be heading back on the 19th to buy my new mower :)

I think this is a Home Depot advertised special, and Amazon probably will not match it. They usually won't match free item with purchase promos, but you can always ask.

Your local Home Depot may have some remaining clearance 20" mower kits, but you will have to call or go look yourself since the web site no longer shows available inventory.

I just want to remind everyone that the 2.0 amp battery in the mowers (especially the new 21") won't last hardly at all. We're talking 15 minutes tops.

  • 37,012 Points 20k badge 2x thumb
15 minutes sounds about right in the 21" SP on thick grass. More like 25 minutes in the 20" on average grass. Definitely not "tops" of 15 minutes in a mower.

I can see that. The 2Ah lasts just over 20 mins in my 20" mower. Just long enough to cut my small yard! :-)

I wouldn't expect more than 15 mins. out of the 2.0Ah battery in the mower. That would be enough for me to finish the job if I run out of battery. With my gas-powered push mower it's about an hour's job, so I'd be cutting it close anyway.

Is the chainsaw WITHOUT a battery & charger eligible for a free battery??  I just ordered one and it arrives today.  If it's not eligible, perhaps I will switch my next order to a full kit.   Anyone know the answer??  For $83 more, I would be getting $260 worth of battery, in addition to a charger.

Thanks.  that answers my question.  tomorrow when the promo is live, I'll order the 14" CS with battery and charger.  that would be $83 well spent.  :)  My closest HD is just 5 blocks away so no biggie to return the one that arrives today.

Sigh.  I just received the chain saw from UPS (w/o battery).  It's killing me not to use it.  I'm gonna return it and get the kit with extra battery.  By doing that, I basically paying $42 per battery.

I've got my 14" chainsaw kit + extra battery on order!   Cant wait!  I got the same chainsaw delivered yesterday but I'm not going to use it--it will go back to the local HD for refund.  I don't feel it would be right to use the one I just got, knowing that it's going to be returned.

I see it in their ad, I am going to probably pick up a couple tools in store but none of my local stores have the mower and adding the mower and the battery to my cart on homedepot.com doesn't seem to give the discount.  Any insight on this?  Is it in-store only?

Thanks, looking forward to moving a bunch of my tools to battery after ready all the great things about EGO!

The online SKUs are specific to the promo (see my link above) and include the extra battery in the item description. You don't add the battery separately.

Note that Jennifer posted earlier that the promo includes ALL kits, but not all of them are currently showing up online. The eight available only include two mower kits, the 20" with 4.0Ah and the 21" SP with 7.5Ah battery. Not sure if that is intentional or not.

Just a few simple tips for those debating which version of tools to get.

Get the newest blower, it's that much better in design.

Get the 15" String trimmer.  It's heads above the rest.  The 14" is single speed, 15" is a perfect example of how an electric trimmer should work, variable speed and works as well or better than any gas trimmer.

Debatable about which mower.  For a smaller lawn without many trees around that drop twigs and sticks, the 20" mower is very nice.  I love that thing.

The newest blower is especially a no-brainer with both being the exact same price!

Just FYI, the extra battery is a 2.0ah battery.  I could see this being useful on the string trimmer and maybe the hedge trimmer.  My 2.0ah battery has never seen the outside.  Maybe others can chime in on the run time you would get on other devices.  I know the blower "blows" through my 4ah battery.

It's also useful with the mower if you can't finish on a single charge. The rapid charger can about 75% charge a 4.0Ah battery in the time it takes to deplete a 2.0Ah battery.

Ok, I got a free battery with a blower, trimmer and saw in-store.  Seems like HD only has it setup to give one free per purchase but a manager was able to adjust the pricing so I got the 3 free in one transaction.  Unfortunately no mowers locally so I ordered that online with the link above (thanks David!) but it does state it comes with free extra battery, and gets shipped free to store, just seems like I will need to wait a couple weeks for it to come in.

I've received a discount on every online order for Ego equipment that almost matches my in-store military discount.  You have to ASK the HD orders department for this discount.  You can't order from the website and expect to get the discount after the fact, ie by going to your local store after purchasing online and expecting them to provide you with a credit after the fact.  It only takes them a few moments over the phone to calculate the best deal.  The 3rd order I placed (which was today, for the kit 14" chain saw) first offered me 5% off to which I said, "shouldn't you be able to match the discount I received on the "bare-bones" CS which I'll be returning unused, to my local HD"? He quickly countered with, "I can go 9% for you", to which I readily agreed, as that's what I got on the previous order.   Don't be shy about negotiating  a deal with HD.com.   Keep in mind this was basically because I complained that they wouldn't honor military discounts which I routinely receive in-store.

Today's order for the 14" kit chain saw shows a far longer order fulfillment date than the previous one which I received yesterday.  It shows may 27 - Jun 1.  Hopefully, it will come earlier, like my other order, which came a day early.

Hi everyone, we received a little misinformation when originally posting about this sale so I wanted to clear it up here.

In store, they will only honor the free battery if you buy any full-priced kit.  Almost all of the tools from last year are clearanced and will not qualify for this promo.

Online, almost all of the kits are fair game.  Inventory is limited for the first generation of the tool kits so get them while you can.

Is it just me, or is the 2Ah 15" string trimmer kit not an unreal value with the free battery? That's pretty much continuous top-level performance cordless trimming ability.

Of course the 2.5Ah kit is only $20 more... decisions, decisions. :-)

David Cline

  • 37,012 Points 20k badge 2x thumb
The deal is definitely better on the cheaper items. $179 is only $50 more than the price of just the battery, so you're getting an extra battery and a tool ridiculously cheap.

Too bad the mowers don't get a free 4.0Ah battery instead of the 2.0Ah. But I'm guessing that there are less of those to clear out since to my knowledge they weren't carried in stores.

Still, I went two years with just a 4.0Ah and 2.0Ah to power my mower, string trimmer, and hedge trimmer. And I never ran out of power once as long as I kept the battery I wasn't using on the charger.
