New snow blower won’t start. Have used it a half dozen times including this morning when I ran it until the batteries were done. Recharged them fully - inserted them properly, fully seated - but the unit would not turn on nor would the lights. Called support and no one ever picked up. Tried to leave my number several times as suggested but the system kept asking me to leave my number after I just did. Very frustrating. Is there a simple fix or do I need to return the unit to Home Depot?

If the lights won’t even turn on there’s definitely something messed up.

If you are still within your 90 day return window, the easiest thing would be to return/exchange for a new one. If you’re not within 90 days, getting in touch with Ego Customer Service is your first step.

Ok thanks. Timing is unfortunate - 10” of snow last night. Is this a known problem? I saw a few other comments re blowers not starting. Just concerned if we get a replacement that it will happen again. Other than this we really like it.

The ones with the issue were early releases that died early. I'm surprised you got a bad one this late. Exchange it. It's unlikely you will have this issue again. My first one did this also.

Thank you - we are heading out to exchange it now. Another 6” is expected this afternoon!

I guess I am happy to see this thread.  Bought mine one year ago.  Also own lawn mower, blower, and several batteries.  Love all the products, tell all my friends.  Yesterday the snow thrower just turned off.  No warning. Since I had been out awhile, I decided to just recharge the batteries.  Still nothing.  So, I brought the blower inside the house to warm up.  Still nothing.  Lights won't turn on, just nothing.  Tried Customer Support but they are off for the holidays.  I will call them on Monday.  Any thoughts from anyone?  Thanks.

If you want to sell it. I'm interested. I want to know what is causing this so I can use the parts from the 3 blowers I bought for 150.00 on ebay for all 3. Just the electronics.

If your willing, let me know. I will also try to find a solution this weekend as I am going to be working on my parts to get my mower ready for using the parts I have. If it is a motor controller, I will find out. I have one I got for 70.00 that does 1500 watts. I will use that to detetmine if it's the controller.

And yeah I agree. It's rediculous that they don't sell the parts for everything yet.

Talk about a green company not being green. Smh EGO

it is a bit ironic how their products are replaced under warranty (which is great) but then the non functioning product (often times almost new) is destined for the land fill.

Jacob -

I dug a little deeper. Got the motor controller out. I'm mechanical by nature and education but love troubleshooting. I measured resistance across the red/black power input to the board and it's a direct short (0.0 Ohms). I then snipped the quad pack of capacitors off and measured it again and again direct short.

Red/black input shorts to blue out. Brown/yellow/blue motor out leads are open to each other.

I have a multimeter that has a CAP function but here are where my electrical skills are lacking. I measured across the red/black wires and get no reading even though each cap is labeled 680 micro-F. I also checked the resistance and it shows open circuit.

(no PM here so if you want to contact me maybe use the method I gave in my post just before the pic of the diode?)

Our unit was quickly replaced at Home Depot. Interestingly, as I was checking to see if they had any in stock I overheard two staff members talking to each other commenting that they were very surprised to see an Ego returned as they had never seen one come back. I told them it was mine and described what had happened. They made sure I got a new one in an unopened box. It started just fine and did the entire driveway which is very long and sloped. I really hope we just had a dud, but it did work for about six full driveway clearings and then just would not turn on when I tried the seventh time. Hope this will not happen again.

The most frustrating thing was that I was never able to get support. I was on hold a long time and when the recording suggested I leave my number for a call back it would not take the number even after several tries. Perhaps because I am calling from Canada?

We are in Peachland BC - small town just south of Kelowna in the Okanagan valley. That is Lake Okanagan with a provincial park on the other side. We consider ourselves very lucky to have found this place. The driveway is several hundred feet long - maybe 3-400? Never measured it. Yesterday we used both batteries, full power- three charges. I have almost done the entire driveway with one charge with two inches of light snow. We used to live in Ottawa and Calgary - so we know cold and snow!!

We’ve had a COLD couple of weeks in Ottawa... our high was -20C today, and dropping to an expected -30C tonight:

That’s -22F for all the folks south of the border :-)

468ft! Wow! A nice long drive to the road to admire the view! :-)

Mine just did the same thing.  We are in the middle of a monster snow storm and I have used it several times this week and just now it died and will not start again. CAN ANYONE HELP?  Customer service is closed for the holidays!

If you bought it in the last 90 days go exchange it. If not then only option is to get a hold of customer Service. Or go buy another and return it later. Sucky thing to do, but so is allowing a product to be shipped out with electronics that are not reliable.

Mine died last year the second time I tried to use it.  EGO said it was probably the circuit board and they sent me a new one, but they never sent a label to return the first one.  So I have a bunch of spare parts!

Just had this happen to mine. Got it on three days ago. This was the second time using it. I was in the middle of the driveway, stopped to talk to my neighbor, and when I went to start up again, it is completely dead. No lights or anything. Acts just like a blown fuse. I'm waiting for a call back from EGO. Kind of disappointing, that I can't even get two full uses out of it before it dies. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly.

They will ship you a new one, or you can go and exchange it. I would exchange it as it's quicker for you.
While it may not seem like it,. These cases are extremely rare.

Bought my snow blower in Sept 2016 and it has worked great for every snow until yesterday.  Went out and worked on the snow midday until the batteries needed to be recharged.  Recharged them, but when I went to use the snow blower to clear more of the blizzard, the unit did not start, lights did not turn on either.  I called customer service and received a call back relatively quickly.  EGO is sending me a replacement in the next week or so and then I will return the one I have to a local Home Depot.  I am happy with customer service, assuming all goes as stated.  I love EGO products, with a lawnmower, leaf blower, snow blower, and soon will also have the chain saw.  I am wary of the snowblower however, as the first one I ordered would not start out of the box, so exchanged it for the one that just failed yesterday, after working perfectly since September 2016.  I am hopeful that I will not have any further problems, however, given the great experience I have had with the other EGO products.  Thank to Daniel at EGO customer service I eagerly await the replacement.
