New mower kit didn't come with battery

Ok now, I just picked up my new EGO 21" self propelled mower tonight from the Home Depot. I purchased it as a kit, mower, charger, and the 7.5 Ah battery. Well, when we opened up the box, everything was there except the battery. There was a note taped to the side of the box saying the battery was not shipped. The store I picked it up from is aware of the problem, but I was wondering if the battery is shipped separately due to being made of lithium?

Official Response
Philip, there were a lot of questions about this 10 months ago.  But the short answer is Yes, the 7.5Ah battery has to be shipped separately due to revised regulation.  Your 7.5Ah battery should be shipped to your home, but double check with EGO Customer Service to be safe.  The link below is the new 2017 Regulation from UPS regarding shipping Li-ion batteries.

I had the same issue when I picked up mine a few weeks ago. The battery was supposed to be at the store along with the mower, but for some reason it had gotten bounced back to EGO by the shipper (UPS). HomeDepot told me it was because of a problem with the LiIon shipping labels.

Home Depot said they would have EGO ship the battery directly to me, but instead it was shipped to the store (where the receiving department lost it for 3 days...)  When they eventually found the box/battery, everything worked, although my battery had a manufacture date of Dec 2014, while my mower/charger had a manufacture date of Sep 2016. (I bought it in March 2017).

Wondering if the local HD pulled an older battery off the shelf for you. I saw that when I received the "free" battery" promotion with the trimmer last year...battery was made in 2014 and was pulled out of stock...not so fresh stock. :)

Ego shipped the battery to HD in a box, tracking number said it arrived Friday morning, but when I called to confirm if it was ready for pickup they couldn't find it until the next Monday night. When I picked it up battery box was inside the shipping box (which was opened)....but unless they took a new battery out of my box and put in an older battery they had on their shelf, I think it came directly from the Kenco/Chevron shipping department. (where the box said it was from).

Summetj, if you have some concerns about your new battery, I would recommend you contact Customer Service Department about this.  They can verify your battery based on the serial number, and see if it was the "original" battery with your mower.  Also keep in mind that you have a 3 Years Limited Warranty on your battery, based on the date of your purchase - not the date when the battery was manufactured.  Either way, you are covered with your new battery.

I've contacted them and registered the items to make sure I'm covered with the warranty.  They didn't say anything about the serial number (the mower and battery ship separately, so they are not necessarily tracked as a single "kit").

The people at the HD are not looking at the shipping manifest or noting on sales receipts. Surprised that store associates are so lax and HD still doesn't have this covered...but it doesn't surprise me. Keep in mind all batteries have to ground ship so that can take many more days to reach destinations.
The date of the battery is not a real concern but you think there would be newer batteries in the pipeline...just make sure you register the battery and keep copies of receipts.

Thanks...I'm still side-eyeing my Dec 2014 date (on a battery purchased in 2017...)

Interesting. Like to hear ego's response on this. Another reason to make sure you register your purchase. I bet the local HD store "found" your battery in stock...hence the older date.

They said they would stand by the battery guarantee when I asked about the older date while attempting to register (on the phone). So far it hasn't shown up in my online account under "Your warranties", so I'll be checking with them on that.
