I just bought a backpack blower with the 5.0 Ah battery, and when I put the battery on the charger nothing happens (when I plugged the charger in first the two lights lit for a second then turned off). The battery shows green when I press its button, and I plugged it into the blower to check and it was working. I bought another tool kit at the same time (with a 2.5 Ah battery), and that battery charged on its charger just fine (lit up, started charging, etc.). If I put the 5.0 Ah battery on the other charger it doesn't do anything either. Is this because the battery is fully charged (which seems strange since it has a March 2017 serial number, and I thought these shipped with a partial charge)? Or is there something wrong?

Try running the battery for a few minutes then wait a few for it to cool, then try putting it back on the charger. If nothing comes on probably a battery issue.did you try the 2.5ah battery on both chargers to rule out the charger?

Thanks Erik, I'll give that a try here in a little bit. I didn't try the 2.5 on the other charger, but I'll check that too.

Well, I put the 5.0 Ah battery into the blower and ran it for about 5-10 minutes until the blower shut itself off (stopped running). The battery pack wasn't hot (or even warm), an if I pushed the button on the batter it lit up green. I placed it into the charger and the green light began flashing on the charger (and the fan began running), but within 1-2 minutes it stopped and the flashing red light was on. I didn't check the 2.5 Ah battery on this charger yet (since it's fully charged), but this makes it seem like a battery issue to me. Does that sound right?

I would still try the 2.5 ah battery just to make sure it’s not the charger. The battery might not feel hot outside but the circuit could be telling the charger it was too hot to charge if just used.
It sounds like the battery but like I said I’d try the 2.5ah battery on that charger to be sure.
Running it on the backpack blower with turbo should run it down quick. And I think even if you put it on the charger the fan will run for a second and it will check the battery and if it’s fully charged all 4 bars will stay lit.

Well, rather than leave this up to a question, I went and tried the other configurations. The 5.0 Ah battery on the other charger (the one that came with the 2.5 Ah battery) did the same thing, looked like it was charging for 30 seconds then gave a blinking red light. The 2.5 Ah battery on the charger that came with the 5.0 Ah battery lit solid green (indicating it is fully charged). That does seem to pretty well place the issue in the battery. Do I reach out to Home Depot or Ego at this point? Since I bought it as a kit (with the blower) it would seem wasteful to return the whole thing, but I don't know the preferred method.

Probably the battery then. The user manual might tell you what the flashing red means while on charger. I’ve never read the manual haha.
It’s prob the battery. You could see if Home Depot will exchange just the battery in the kits if they have more or call EGO and start a warranty claim for battery.

I returned the blower to Home Depot and the replacement works fine, so at least that’s solved then. Thanks for the help!
