My string trimmer smells like it is burning. Smoke coming out near the spool?

I put in a new string spool. I used it for 20 minutes. When I stopped, I saw smoke coming out from where the string spool is...smelled like burning plastic. Can't figure it out....did I install the spool improperly so that it is not spinning, thus creating friction and smoke?
