It is real! Just arrived hoping to give it a spin. Very pleased with the build quality. The package is also very compact.

Easier on the environment, and probably lower cost for Ego to make; I'd rather they put efforts into the item rather than making pretty packaging.

Did you have the 15'' trimmer before?
I want to know how it compares power wise...

I agree. I just used my new combo and did all of my trimmining and 90% of my edging on low. I think the higher speed would be most helpful with the pole saw.

I am well outside the return period, and primarily needed the power head for the edger. That said, it is an easy decision for me to have my power head hooked up to the edger and keep my dedicated 15" string trimmer for all my trimming needs.

I prefer the sensitivity of the 15" trimmer, where the speed can easily be slow enough to not damage soft metal decorations. The power head wields a lot more power at its lowest possible speed, IMHO. Not nearly as much power on top, but definitely a lot more finesse at the low end.

The ST1500 has more than enough power; and the PH1400/STA1500 is more  than sufficient at speed #1, with the 2.5AH battery.  Having used both a few times now, I grab the lighter and easier to maneuver ST1500 over the PH1400 combo.

Like any multi-use tool, you are likely going to have to lose something to gain something else.  In the case of the PH1400 combo, you gain the additional capability of multiple attachments, but lose the lightweight and maneuverability benefit.

makes sense - it has a lot more power so it can run other tools, but that makes it a little bulky as a string trimmer.

I did but I only used it once then found out about this one. I only used the edger so far, it worked really well.
