Mower stopped working and EGO won't honor warranty

I bought a56V Cordless EGO mower (model LM2100) for nearly $500 from Amazon 3 months ago, not realizing that I was buying it from a 3rd-party seller. The mower suddenly stopped working - it won't start up. The battery is fine. We called EGO and ran through some tests and they said it should be returned. We sent in the proof of purchase and they replied back "Unfortunately, the vendor that you purchased from is not one of our authorized vendors and as such your product is not eligible for the manufacturer’s warranty".

I honestly had no idea that I was buying this item from a 3rd-party seller (JR's Better Deals) and that by doing so I was waiving EGO's warranty. I am now stuck with a mower that is completely useless after 3 months, and EGO won't do anything about it.

Is that really how you want to treat your customers?

I would contact JR about warranty information as is stated on their amazon page.

I did that. Their "warranty" is only 30 days. So, yes, my bad for not realizing that I purchased it from a 3rd-party seller. The point is that it's still an EGO product that would've been warranted for 5 years if I'd bought it from Amazon Direct. What's the difference?

I feel ripped off by Amazon, JR, and EGO.

The difference is it could be refurbished, previously returned, used or stolen merchandise.

I would raise hell with amazon for not clarifying the warranty issue when you made the purchase.

I will certainly do that, but the fact remains that the mower failed and is now totally useless. We're talking about a product that would normally be warranted for 5 YEARS. If EGO stood by its products and its customers they would offer to do something to make this right.

I think Amazon is the only one you should have a complaint with.  Ego is not at fault in this situation.  Just don't deal with Amazon anymore or at least give them a call and state that you are a good customer with them and very disappointed with how they advertised this item.  In the future, I would buy Ego products from Home Depot who has a good customer service department.  Five hundred dollars is a lot of money to lose, so I can understand your disappointment.

I would try speaking with Amazon. This is an ongoing issue, so I hope they’re aware and working on some kind of resolution. They may or may not be able to do something for you based on the fact you thought you were dealing with Amazon (who is an authorized dealer).
