Mower Noise

My 20 inch push mower has developed a loud squeaking noise. It started out as a small chirping noise and has got louder. I have used the mower about 4 or 5 times. The noise is coming from the height adjustment mechanism. It doesn't matter if the motor is engaged or not. I am thinking of unscrewing the adjustment handle / plate and spraying the mechanism with some lubricant. I would rather not send it out for repair if I can avoid it. My ION noise reduction headphones drown out the noise for now. Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi Mike,

I dealt with a squeak from that area, but only after 2 years of use.  I tightened the phillips screws all around the location of the handle height adjustment to get rid of some of the play, and also lubricated it.  I haven't had an issue since.

Hope this helps.

Mike, have you lubricated the joints specified in the manual?

I probably should have read the manual. I will start with this and see what happens. Other than this issue the mower has been great.  Thanks.

I think it's a wheel bearing. I had this happen also. Lil grease is all it took

I have the same issue after 4-5 uses. Can't complain about the amazing capability of the mower, though the squeaking noise is coming from everywhere of the handle pivot and the height system. I did tighten the screws of the deck and tried shooting lubricant but not sure if it's enough. Moreover, tightening screw seems to be delicate as the whole thing is made of plastic...

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Awesome, despite the squeaking noise!.

Awesome! Despite the squeaking noise from the heigh system reported here: https://community.egopowerplus.com/eg... the mower is a great product. I've used a Lawnboy for 10 years, it was big, heavy, loud and somewhat powerful (6.5hp) and I hated it! The EGO 20" is extremely powerful compared to the 6.5hp Techumseh, it mulches like a charm, earring the blade suction wind from under, it cuts grass evenly I cried for not having this sooner! My 11 years old daughter has tried it and was able to maneuver in slight slope!! I have a 4k square feet area and use a little more than 5.0 amp battery. I added a 2.0 amp. to alternate when needed. I thought lamp on the front was a gadget, but I had to use it twice since the sound level of the mower gives me the chance to finish after dusk!

Can't get rid of the squeaking noise. Strangely it's louder than the mower itself. Still love the mower but the noise is annoying. Sarted right out of the box. Reported it on video here: https://youtu.be/nmgm102hprU | https://youtu.be/d1H2CCeeaDs

Sounds like it's powered by chipmunks and not a battery.

The noise my 20" mower was making is exactly like what yours sounded like in your video. If you lubricate the areas specified in the manual as others have mentioned, the noise should go away. The squeaking noise has completely disappeared.

Thanks Mike, the mower was sent to a repair shop earlier this week for that kind of maintenance as recommended by EGO customer service. Hope for the best!
