keeping 2.5Ah battery on charger

I just bought the Ego trimmer with the 2.5Ah battery, and I was wondering about the charging process.  After I complete a charge, I know the manual recommends removing the battery and unplugging the charger, but I was wondering if I could just unplug the charging base from the wall and leave the battery on it until the next use.  Will this drain the battery in any way if no power is going into the battery?  Maybe this is a dumb question.  I just want to be economical with my battery charging habits.

I have had no problem with batteries left on the charger.  I think it is more a safety issue as your battery is in contact with the charger, its electronics, and possibly a power supply if the charger is plugged in.  No real electrical knowledge or insight here, just my thoughts / observations / experience.

Does the charger automatically (and safely for the battery) quit charging the battery and can I simply keep a battery for long periods on the charger without harming battery or wasting electricity?

Yes. However after 30 days the battery will discharge to about 30% for long term storage mode. It will not recharge to 100% until you remove the battery and reinsert it on the charger to restart the charge function.
