Comparison of the self propelled systems. Is the self propelled system on th 2142 smoother than previous models? Very common complaint is that the previous ones were too fast or too slow.

Is this not the right forum to get an answer on the user experience between the old and new self-propelled systems? Is it the same as the one on the brushless steel deck version? If so can anyone speak to any improvements from the original to the brushless? And if nobody has user experience to both might a company rep offer some insight?

EGO’s Representative sent this statement out a few weeks ago.

Hello EGO Community! We’d like to take this opportunity to clear the air regarding our new Dual Battery Mower. Since there has been a great deal of interest and a bit of confusion surrounding this mower, let’s jump into the facts straightaway.

-This mower’s motor is brushless.
-This mower is rated at 1200W.
-This mower’s PeakPowerTM technology delivers more torque, longer run times, and a more efficient power draw.
-This is the most powerful brushless motor in the entire EGO Power+ mower lineup.

You’ll want to note that all of these statements have been confirmed by our engineering team. Also, the Steel Deck Self-Propelled Mower is rated at 1000W. Our apologies for any misunderstanding.

Matt I'm on my second season with the LM2102SP single battery and my self-propelled system has operated great so far. I can control it from a crawl to a running pace.

(Like many say, remember this is the site users are directed to go to solve issues so you will hear far more problems than praises.)

Michael's statement is right on.  I have three of EGO's lawn mowers.  Their first push lawn mower: their first self-propelled lawn mower; and now their dual battery self-propelled lawn mower.  I also have their snow blower, two high speed blowers, and their biggest chain saw.  Believe it or not, I never had any problems with these tools or batteries.  When I first came on this site, I was amazed at all the problems people had.  But then I realized that this site was basically for people who had problems with their purchases.   I think some of these problems were from abuse or not knowing how to use these products.  The brushless motors are more efficient, but I never had any problems with my first two lawn mowers.  I sold my first lawn mower to my cousin, who lives next to me.  He loves the mower and hasn't had any problems with it for the past two years.  The most important factor is to read and follow the directions in the manual.

Bill - amen and amen !

Michael I am right with you and the function of my SP.

I am going into year 3 with my 21" SP and I have not had any problems with the SP or any other feature for that matter.

Matt R watch this video and pay particular attention at 3:36 re the new SP system

Picked up the mower yesterday. My first negative impressions of the 21" Dual Battery SP mower right out of the box...

2 concerns, the SP is slower than the other 21" SP but similar to the 20" Steel Deck. I like a faster pace. Also, the left rear wheel is making a clunking noise which isn't right. I took off the wheel to check it out, tightened some screws, no change. Then I switched the wheels from left to right and still no change. This clunking rotation sound is something similar to the problems we have encountered on our well-used mowers from wear and tear.

We will put it into service today and see how it performs. If any has had this problem and has a solution, please let me know.

Clunking sound = replace and return the unit.

I like to start my tool ownership without any clunking sound

That's amazing!!!  When I have my dual battery lawn mower up to full speed, I almost have to start running.  I also have the single battery lawn mower.
