I puchased an EGO 15" string trimmer with carbon fiber shaft. model ST1521S. The sales preson indicated that I cout attach an interchangeable edger. However, there was no information in the instructions and on examination of the assembled unit it did not look possible. Did I buy the wrong model?

Yes, you bought a standalone string trimmer. It has the carbon fiber shaft and the powerload head. Pretty neat machine from the looks of it, but yeah, it can't accept any attachments.
This is the system you want for interchangeable heads.

Unfortunately the sales person was mistaken.
Ego makes stand alone string trimmers including the new carbon fiber model with the power load feature.  There are no other components to attach the the string trimmers.

Ego also makes a power head unit. this has several attachments including a string trimmer, edger, pole saw, and hedge trimmer.

If you bought the trimmer at Home Depot, they have a 90-day return period (one year if you bought with a Home Depot credit card). If you're wanting the multi-tool you should be able to take the trimmer back and exchange it with no problem.

Here's the multi-tool kit with the string trimmer, edger, battery and charger: https://egopowerplus.com/collections/power-head/products/power-head-string-trimmer-edger-combo

That kit comes with a battery that is double the capacity of the battery that comes with the carbon fiber trimmer.
