How to remove entire trimmer head from 15" EGO Trimmer

I have a rapid reload trimmer.  Today while cutting some weeds I ran into some fishing line that I didn't see and it stopped the weedeater.  I was able to untangle a lot of it but it is stuck inside the cutting head itself around the inner spool. I would have to take the entire head off and I was unable to do that today. Any suggestions on how to remove the entire head from the assembly? I used a 1/2 inch socket but the entire spool turns and I'm unable to get the spool to stop turning when i try to take the 1/2' nut off...Any suggestion will be appreciated..

Hi
The manual says hold the spool and use an impact socket wrench to loosen. I figure you are going to have to use a jerking motion to get it loose. I have not tried removing personally as i have only used the machine once.

Stephen, watch this YouTube video on replacing the string trimmer head with a brush cutter blade. The part you need is where they show how to remove the head.

Very helpful guys thanks. I had a bunch of fishing line wrapped inside the trimmer head. Had to pull it all apart to get it. Had to use n impact drill to loosen the nut and then a  "circlips pliers" to undo the round retaining ring around the shaft to remove the fan assembly. Had to go buy a pair because who owns a pair of "circlips" pliers? Anyway, I pulled it all apart and there wrapped around the inside of the trimmer head was about 15' of fishing line. Crazy. never saw it and it wasn't mine because I don't fish. Reassembled the EGO trimmer, put in the battery, pressed the button and believe it or not it worked perfectly and I was thrilled. Thanks for your tips. Love this trimmer its fantastic, glad its working again.
