How to clean battery?

We dropped the big battery in wet, gooey mud. Pretty much coated everywhere. How should I clean it? I considered for a second putting it under running water but then my life-preserving instinct kicked it. I wiped it down but the little vents (screens in the vents) still have mud and are wet.

I tried to take the outer plastic shell off but it is affixed with non-standard screws.

Definitely don't spray it or run under water. I would use a pipe cleaner for the crevices and a damp cloth for the rest. Hopefully mud didn't seep inside and it will still work fine once the exterior is cleaned.

You were right, Matthew: do NOT use water. You'll definitely want to avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts, too. Try using clean rags to wipe it down as best you can, then chip off anything dried with a brush. You can also give us a buzz for additional tips and troubleshooting: 1-855-346-5656.
