I apologize if this is a dumb question guys but I cant seem to find an answer anywhere. Is there a method of bump reloading the trimmer head without cutting the grass to short? When I try to bump load the trimmer, I end up cutting a nice circular patch into my grass.

I usually walk near my pavement and bump it there.  But good question for the people that are far away from a hard surface...

Me too. I find any hard surface, even vertical, and bump away.

Since I started cutting at 3.5", the max height on my 20" mower, there's no way I could bump feed on the lawn without serious consequences!

Question: what are people trimming up against that's hard enough to wear the trimmer line but isn't accessible for bump feeding the trimmer? ;-)

Sometimes just panels that lead to electrical wires or water valves that are smaller than the diameter of the swath that I'm trimming with, but it really hasn't been a problem for me, but I do small lawns.
