How should I store my mower in-season?

I am looking for advice on how to store my Ego Power+ mower during the cutting season. I don't have a convenient place to store it indoors between mowings, so should I cover it with a tarp or some sort of fitted cover? Will keeping it outside damage the mower over time? I plan on keeping it in my basement during the winter, but don't have space to keep it there year round. Thanks!

The following steps should be taken in order to prepare the lawn mower for storage.

  1. Remove the battery pack from the mower and store it in a cool, dry location.
  2. Remove the safety key from the slot.
  3. Clean the mower as described in the previous section.
  4. Inspect the blade and replace it or sharpen it if required.
  5. Lubricate the mower.
  6. Store the mower in a dry, clean location. Do not store it next to corrosive materials, such as fertilizer or rock salt.
  7. Store the mower in a covered, enclosed space, that is cool and dry and out of the reach of children.
  8. Do not cover the lawn mower with a solid plastic sheet. Plastic coverings trap moisture around the mower, which causes rust and corrosion.

The handle assembly can be folded away completely for storageRemove the grass bag.

  1. Open the handle locking clamps and fully recess the side rails to the compact position.

  2. Press and hold the quick-adjust lever with your right hand to release the handle. Gently pivot the handle toward the front of the mower; release the quick-adjust lever and continue to pivot the handle until you hear and feel the lock pin engage in the locked storage position.

  3. Store the mower upright or flat.

John - you will note that "dry" is mentioned multiple times when discussing storage. So, it is going to be covered in some manner.  Note that the cover Ego sells is not designed for outdoor storage. You need to protect it from the weather while at the same time not trapping moisture.

John, I'm curious. Are you saying you have no way to store the mower in its folded up and vertical storage position during the mowing season? Even a corner in the garage? When configured for that sort of storage it really takes up very little space.

I live in a row house without a garage. And I don't have a walk out basement--I need to go down a few winding stairs to get from ground level. I'll have to move some things around, but it will be a bit of a hassle.

Park it in your front closet during mowing season

Make sure you get a blower to clean it off BEFORE you bring it in the house.

As an aside...if you landscape your front the way I did when I lived in a townhouse...I mowed "my lawn" with a weed trimmer...:)
