Ok, so I know it is a dead horse, the whole advancing the line on the 12 in trimmer, but what I have found works best for me is to find a hard surface (draveway, medium sized rock) and just press the trimmer down vs bumping it. I haven't run out of the stock line yet so I haven't replaced it. Being trying to figure out what to out in there when the OEM line is out.

EGO recommends Rino-Tuff, I believe. The 12-inch trimmer takes 0.80 line.

I've also had decent luck with Echo line, which seems to cut through anything and lasts a while, although I don't like the fragments of dayglow orange line that end up in the yard when the line is trimmed.

You might also try smooth, round line, which seems to snag less when you hit the bump feeder.
