How can I adjust the Ego Edger Attachment depth of cut to 1/4" as suggested in the manual?

Hi

I am using the Ego products and am very satisfied with all of them except the Edger attachment. I can't seem to adjust the cutting depth to 1/4" as per the manual's recommendation. I have looked at the video and read the manual but no way can I get it to cut anything other than 60mm deep. IMHO the depth of cut is determined by the height of the guide plate sitting on the pathway/mowing edge and the end of the blade which measure 60mm from the bottom of the guide plate to the end of the blade. The manual and video say you can adjust the cutting depth by adjusting the Guide wheel depth adjusting knob but in my experience this only changes the angle of the edger shaft in relation to the lawn and in no way adjust's the cutting depth. Ego have suggested that I do not sit the guide plate on the path and then use the fulcrum of the wheel to give a shallower cut but then what is the point of the guide plate at all and how do you keep the cut straight?

Anybody experience this problem or did and have a solution?

Thanks

Barry, I found the same issue. If you don’t use the guide plate the blade is constantly hitting the concrete. Not good for the blade or the concrete, and probably very hard on the gearbox as well.

My solution was to buy a spare blade and shorten it. I removed one inch off either end:

In addition to offering a much shallower cut, I also find it much easier to go around curved areas. Before shortening the blade I made quite a mess of this area:

If I had to do it over again I might only take 3/4” off. With 1” removed it still does a good job of edging, but it feels like it could be just a little deeper to be optimal.

Note: this is a DIY hack, not something recommended by Ego. Proceed at your own risk. :-)

Hi

What a good idea, thanks for the heads up.

I was starting to think I was dumb not being able to adjust it to the recommended depth. Begs the question though why Ego have not figured this is an issue?

Cheers
