I live in Illinois across the river from St. Louis, and the Home Depots in our region DO NOT represent Ego very well at all - None of them! It's atrocious! There sales staff (essentially just box-house clerks) have ZERO product knowledge, and none of the stores represent much of the product line at all - basically just the string trimmer, one or two of the 21" mowers, occasionally the hand blower, and the 2.0 Ah battery (If that!). In fact they just clearanced out the wonderful backpack blower from our local Alton, IL store, which is an unbelievable piece of equipment (I was so impressed with the Ego backpack blower to address my 7 acres of woods that my Stihl BR550 is for sale!!!). The stores have HUGE Echo battery tool kiosks and displays (big, bulky, heavy and unwieldy tools), and even larger Ryobi displays (cheap, underpowered tools), with massive inventories of both lines, yet Ego barely gets any showing at all. I'm a touchy-feely guy, especially when considering the purchase of a $750 lawn mower, and I will NOT consider the purchase of one until I can actually see it and feel it and assess it for myself (I appreciate reviews, but they do not tell me or everyone else the whole story for their particular application). Online-only is not a practical or useful option in this case. I understand big national corporate deals and partnerships (I do the same in the commercial security business), but it absolutely boggles and amazes me that Ego, with their impressive line-up of specialty, high-technology battery tools would put all their eggs in the Home Depot box-house basket. HD does not serve Ego well at all (at least in our region), and it is an absolute injustice to the impressive, high-quality line of Ego tools, of which I own several and love them all!!! Please take a look at the impressive and extremely successful Stihl model of marketing, distributorship, and support, because I truly believe that Ego is at least worthy of comparison.

Kenneth, absolutely true. Unfortunately, the brands Ego competes against at the box stores are mostly house brands, and that probably means they make more money for the company even if they are inferior.

We all agree, 100%.  But, let me play a different card.  What if other big box stores didn't want to carry EGO, either by choice or contract with competitors not to carry X brand or X products.  Where would EGO go to get to such a wide audience.  It's a very complicated situation for EGO.  I'm sure they aren't happy, but they have SOMETHING.

Now that they are a known brand, with a very high brand reputation, I think their options could be considerably better, but not when they first started out.

Curious how long their contract is with HD.
