This is just a comment.  I recently ordered the new, self-propelled mower directly from HD to be delivered to the store.  I've been tracking the routing and have found it amazing.  It left Walker, MI on to California then to Arizona, off to Oklahoma, then on to Missouri forged ahead to Illinois and arrived in Wisconsin (my home state) last night but will not be delivered to the store until Monday (FedEx must have weekends off.) While I am not in any rush, (we had snow last night) I was fascinated by the trip it took when the shortest distance between two points was straight across Lake Michigan.

It arrived Monday, 4/11 at the designated Home Depot.  I chose store pickup rather than have them leave it on our front door stoop if we were not around.  On Monday, I got a notification from FedEx that is was delivered to the store.  That afternoon I called and someone told me that it had arrived but had to be processed and I'd get a call back later in the day.  It got to be Wednesday and I still had heard from no one and no one in the warehouse could find it.  Finally, on Thursday, it was located under a pile of stuff on a cart and it was found by accident.

Love Ego products.  This is an upgrade from my first generation mower.  This fall I intend to get a leave blower.  I've already got a trimmer.  I'm not sure where I stand on Home Depot.

Very interesting, Richard. Thanks for sharing.

It does seem that HD is a bit of a weak link where the total ownership experience is considered.

That makes sense, if you think of it in terms of distribution. Chances are that shipment contained dozens of units, and made stops at various HD distribution facilities. Just because FedEx is handling logistics doesn't mean it uses traditional shipping routes. They have a 3pl (third party logistics) division that leverages existing infrastructure while maintaining the branding. That truck was most likely solely ego mowers with predetermined stops.

Either way, interesting. They probably could have piece mealed delivery, but likely due to regulations on batteries decided to unify the shipment.

I've wondered whether Ego is really getting a good deal when it comes to this partnership also. My local home depot doesn't even carry the mower.

That is a shame, I stopped by a local store today and was surprised to see that their "limited store availability" is actually both 21" models on display with the shelf fully stocked with each!

They also have plenty of the 4.0Ah 20" mower kits on clearance, but at only $100 less than the new 21" right beside them, I can't imagine they will clear out very fast!

That's a model store you have there, David!

Agreed! Mine just had the hedge trimmer, blower, and weed trimmer. No flagship.

Apparently that is one of the few in the nation that has those mowers in stock. I have no less than 3 Home Depots in my immediate area and None have those mowers on the shelves.

My nearby HD only had the 20" non-propelled. So I decided to take a 30-mile drive and got the one I wanted (21" SP) Got the last one in stock. They had plenty of the 20" and at discount price ($449)
