Front wheels came loose from deck height adjuster

I was mowing uphill with my 21" self propelled mower and the front of my mower dug into the grass and stopped.. I noticed that the front part of my deck was now completely against the turf while the back of the deck was at the correct height. I took the front axle off and noticed that there may be a bolt missing connecting the axle to the height adjustment piece. Do I need to remove the plastic cover and is this an easy fix?

I know the 20" is a pain in the butt. I don't know about the 21"

It sounds like it is an easy fix if you have the bolt.  I'm just going off of what you and Jacob are saying, I do not have the 21 inch self propelled mower myself.

I don't have the bolt but I'm assuming it is inside the plastic cover

If I remember correctly, a similar issue was reported and the suspect part was an E clip:

If that's the case it may or may not be still inside the mower. E clips are available through many hardware stores if that's the case.

I have this exact same problem.  something has broken on my front wheel height adjustment mechanism.  was your problem resolved and if so, how?

You can unscrew the front axle. It will drop down. It's not going to be easy but you might be able to reconnect the c clip from the small slot that the axle pivot slides into. Set height to 3 or 4. If not the left side plastic piece that is black can be pried up to access the area. The screws are from the bottom. The problem is you cant get to all of the screws. Just the front ones.

I tried to reconnect but there was no clip.  I unscrewed the cover to access and it honestly became too much of a project.  I called customer service for a warranty claim.  I am now without the mower for 4-6 weeks...

Well time to buy a new one and return it when yours is fixed. Rediculous repair times. Fight back.

Mine just did the same, have the grey cover completely unscrewed and will replace the clip myself. Has anyone tried using a different clip? anyone know what size clip it is?
