EGO Product Reviews from a converted Stihl gas power tools user.

In August 2018 I decided to replace my fifteen year old Stihl gas tools.  They have served me excellently but they have aged (as I have).  After many hours of research, talking with users and store personnel  I decided to switch all of my tools (except my riding lawn mower) to the EGO power plus tools.

I purchased the following EGO tools:

1.       Multi-head System with the following attachments:

. String Trimmer 15”;

. Edger

. Pole Saw

. Extension Pole

2.       Blower 580cfm

3.       Back Pack Blower

4.       Shoulder Strap

5.       Chain Saw 16”

6.       BackPack LINK

7.       5 Ah battery

8.       6 Ah battery

9.       Rapid Charger

As I was used to a multi-head system from my previous  gas units I found the EGO Multi-head tool system a pleasure to operate.  The interchangeability was easy and I much prefer this over the ‘tool only’ system as they perform equally as well without all of the bulk and at a more economical price.  The String Trimmer was excellent with grass as well as with the grass/masonry edging.  The Edger also worked well on my extended drive and walks.  The Pole Saw and Extension Pole performed like a min-chain saw.

I keep the hand held Blower in my garage for use in the garage, outside on the motor court and drive area.  My wife also uses this around the porch.  I use the more powerful Back Pack Blower in the yard as well as for our long drive and street area – it truly is an outstanding tool.  I will be using the Chain Saw next week but fully expect it to perform as well as all of my other EGO tools.

I have a 2 acre residential area so I purchased several of the tools on promotion so as to get the best price and to include the 5Ah and 6 Ah batteries (rather than the smaller 3Ah, etc.) as I wanted to be certain that I could finish a task without running out of ‘juice’.  I did research the battery weights and decided to purchase the BackPack LINK so that I could mount the battery onto the BackPack Vest which then has a cable to plug into each tool thereby greatly reducing the weight of the tool by shifting the weight to the vest.  This has worked out very well as my arms/shoulders/back are significantly relieved of weight with the extended tool usage.  The 5 and6 Ah battery charges last longer than my tasks which I could not say for my previous gas units which required fuel refill during tasks.  And I certainly do not miss the gas and oil mixtures.  Additionally all of the units are so much quieter than my gas units that I use ear plugs rather than the headphone pads.

I am very pleased  with my EGO PowerpPus tools and look forward to future EGO products.

MWS, thank you for your review on EGO power tools and welcome to the family ... I too owned multiple EGO tools with great results!

  1. Split shaft 15" trimmer
  2. Carbon Fiber trimmer
  3. 575 CFM blower
  4. 600 CFM blower
  5. Power Head with
  6. .... Edger, Hedge Trimmer, and Pole Saw attachments
  7. 24" Hedge Trimmer
  8. and soon the Snow Blower (waiting for delivery this week).
Since I still own a Honda twin blade mower, I did not purchase the EGO mower.  In the last 2.5 years, I only had one bad battery and a standard charger failed on me, which EGO replaced without incident.  Like you, I look forward to new EGO products in the near future ... :-)

mws, wow, thanks for the great review!!! Yes we are at that point where batteries can replace gasoline for many people, and there’s no looking back! Electric is the future and the benefits are many.

I’m sure you’ll love your chainsaw. As with any saw (or mower), keep the chain/blade sharp and it will serve you well. I used mine to cut down and chop up a dozen or so large cedars 40-60’ high, one of which was bigger around than the 16” bar. Worked great, but the chain needed a good sharpening by the time I was through.

WOW Blue, you have a lot of trees.  I am exhausted from Fall "clean-up" from my 3 river birches and 1 ash tree, but you got me beat by a mile ... :-)

This was our lot before we had it cleared. I wanted to save as many trees from the chipper as possible!

I intended for item 8 to be a 7.5 Ah battery (not a 6 Ah).

You got me wondering about the 6.0Ah battery, and so I did a little digging and found that it is available only in the UK - not here in the US.
