Purchased the EGO hedge trimmer about 4 months ago. I used it 1 time and it was amazing. After i was done i cleaned it using a hedge trimmer resin spray for hedge trimmers. I went to use it yesterday and it won't run. I attach a fully charged battery and it makes a sound like its trying to run and then shuts off.

Hey Shane, it sounds like that resin spray may have somehow made the reciprocating blades "stick together" enough to create a motor stall condition. The starting torque can't simply overcome the friction created between the stuck blades. Don't continue try starting it! If you have some allen wrenches, there should be 8 screws that hold these blades together. I would disassemble and clean the blades entirely with some solvent based cleaner to get rid of any of the resin spray, then use a light oil spray on top of that.

Otherwise you can always call EGO CS and ask them for help.

i guess that is possible but the solvent/spray is specifically meant for Hedge trimmers. The spray did a great job on cleaning the blades of all the sap and debris left from my vines etc....

I don't know that product, but I agree with you that you wouldn't think it would create a problem. If blade disassembly, cleaning and drying out the blades doesn't work - I would try calling CS. I hope it works good luck.

Are you using the correct start up sequence? Meaning pulling up on the handle switch and holding it on before pulling the trigger? Mine also takes a second before the blade actually starts moving. Not long but could lead one to think the blade isn't working.
Double check the exposed blades on the hedge trimmer for the battery aren't corroded or have something on them that could affect operation. (Perhaps some of the spray got on those blades?)
If neither of those, your trimmer has a 5 year warranty so give EGO CS a call. They will help you.

Yes, I am. It tries to start but for about a second then nothing. Yeah the blades are free from any debris etc.... Next step i guess is to remove the blades to make sure.

And if you do use a cleaner, most are flammable so you would need to be careful with that!

I had the same problem with both the HT-2411 hedge trimmer and the HTA-2000 hedge trimmer attachment for the power head. They both were trying to start but the blades would not move. The issue has to be with the Stihl resin remover and blade cleaner which I also used on both units. I never had an issue with either trimmer until I used this product. I was able to free the blades without taking them apart. However, I may need to give them a more thorough cleaning. Your trimmer should be fine after you clean the blades.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled hedge trimmer jammed?.

My hedge trimmers that have only been used twice appear to have jammed. When I depress the switches the machine beeps shortly but the blades do not move. I have oiled the blade. Any suggestions please?
