Ego hedge trimmer was brand new, motor ran, but would not cut anything. Blades moved back and forth, but no shear action. I call EGO, they said to take it back to Home Depot. That is 40 miles one way. There other option was to register it and they would send me a new one in 7-12 days. Neither one of these options will get my bushes cut by the weekend.

Hi Edward, that sounds really frustrating that your new hedge trimmer isn't working. I haven't heard of this issue where it runs and the blades move, but somehow without cutting anything, so you must have found a very rare defect.

I am curious what other options you would want for getting a replacement though. Home Depot is the only brick and mortar retail chain that carries Ego products, so unless you were closer to one of the few mom and pop shops then Home Depot is the closest place to get a replacement.

If Ego sends a replacement, they usually ship it out the same day, so the waiting is just the transit time with the shipping company. If your closest Home Depot is over half an hour away then I am guessing you are in a somewhat remote location which is probably why the shipping time is so long. Ego had to send me a battery that was missing from my hedge trimmer kit, but it arrived much faster than they quoted in just 3-4 days.

Most Home Depot stores are open 16 hours per day, from 6am to 10pm. If you really need to trim your hedges before this weekend, I recommend sucking it up and making the drive very early or late in the day if you can't go any other time. That's really the only way you will probably be able to get a replacement by the end of this week.

I know it stinks to buy a tool and have it not work correctly, but I really haven't heard of many issues with the hedge trimmer. I've been using mine for 20 months and it's still running great, so just know that it is worth the trouble to get your Ego hedge trimmer swapped out with a working one, and you probably won't have any more headaches with it for quite some time afterwards.
