For those of you using the hand tools, would you recommend I buy one more 4 Ah battery and use the two to run all my tools? Is the smaller 2 Ah battery worth the run time trade-off to make the tool lighter? What about the 7.5 Ah battery? Too heavy for the hand tools?
Please discuss to help me make my decision!
Honestly, it amounts to how long you will need to use each tool. It takes me 40'ish minutes to mow my lawn. 15 minutes of trimming and 15 minutes with the blower. I get by with 2 4ah batteries. If I have to do more, I WILL use a 2ah battery as fill in.
I would wait until the new prices and batteries are announced. It may be that 2 5ah batteries will do, or 1 7.5. So many variables. I think a 7.5 would be way to heavy for the blower and trimmer. Honestly, I think the Blower uses more current than any of the other tools, mainly because I have duct tape around the turbo button :)
No reason to get technical about this. It is simply a cost/value/convenience calculation. Spell out your use and I'm sure we can all pitch in.
Do you notice a significant difference in the weight, balance, and handling of the hand tools when you use the 4ah battery in place of the 2ah? I think I read one opinion in here that the 4ah battery actually feels like a better balance in the trimmer.
I've recently moved and also now have a small yard, so I might not necessarily need the longer run time to mow, trim, and blow the lawn and concrete.
Using the 2Ah battery in the 15 inch string trimmer I trimmed my whole yard and edged my driveway and gardens, which took about 25 to 30 minutes. I then took that same battery and put it in the mower and got about 10 minutes of cutting time on the mower before the battery died.
In my opinion you should consider buying a kit for one of the tools so you have a 2Ah battery and an extra charger (in case you ever had a problem with your original charger). The battery is very cost effective this way, and it will give you both to play with.
If you really do have a small yard, having one of each battery is probably more than enough, though I don't know how "small" your yard actually is.
I can cut my entire lawn in about 25 minutes, and a 2Ah battery in the mower is almost enough to get that done... I'd need an extra minute or two to complete it with the small battery.
As far as tool balance goes, my personal preference is to use the 2Ah battery in everything but the mower. The added weight of the 4Ah battery isn't a big deal, mostly since I don't use any single tool for very long, but I honestly think the run time of most of the tools is fine with the smaller battery and that the added weight doesn't justify the run time over having say an extra 2Ah battery on hand.
I also predict the 7.5Ah battery will be obnoxiously heavy in anything but the mower. Obnoxious in a good way, of course!
