Dual Port Charger With TURBO Mode

So with the new snow blower we are about to see Ego jump into the realm of dual battery tools, which is awesome!  The power available should be fantastic.

However, this leaves one small problem... how do you charge two batteries at once, especially if the kit comes with one single port battery charger?

How about a dual port charger with TURBO mode?

Here's how it would work.  A dual port charger that operates as a dual simultaneous charger, charging both batteries at the same time; dual ports, dual fans, dual charge level indicators.  It also operates as a standard power charger, meaning it charges the batteries at the same rate as the standard charger, but has a Turbo mode for when you need to have the batteries charged extra quick!

This would mean both batteries could charge at the same time, and only when necessary would the batteries be charged at the higher rate.  This would be easier on the batteries and chargers over the long term since Turbo level charging would only happen as needed.

This will also address the issue of lengthening charge times.  As Ego's batteries get more and more capacity, waiting for the batteries to charge will take longer and longer.  Offering a dual port charger will cut that time in half for dual battery tools, not to mention it will be MUCH more convenient as well as taking up less space.

This idea has been roughly discussed a few times before, I just thought it deserved its own Idea conversation.  :-)

I had that problem at the beginning so I bit the bullet and ordered a second quick charger. Very convenient especially when you have more than one battery (in my case I have 5)

Julio, I came up with he idea after setting my new cabinet up. I realized these four Ego chargers could be replaced by a single well-featured unit:

I can only imagine what this sounds like when you have to charge all 4 at the same time - LOL!

I haven't had four batteries and four chargers going at the same time yet, but I do have them on a switched power bar so I can kill power to all the units at once. When I turn on the power bar and all chargers power up at the same time, hearing all four fans kick on at once is kinda cool!

Does your lights dim?  ;)

Yes, they actually flicker when I turn the power bar on! Lol

This is a pretty cool idea, but I wonder - if it ever came to market - would people actually *BUY* it?  It would likely be a $200 charger (alone).

I was kinda thinking the dual port charger could be something that ships with high end dual battery tools. Chargers on their own are pretty expensive.

My "vision" if you can call it that, would be to have three chargers; the standard charger as-is, a rapid charger with Turbo mode (replacing the current model), and a dual port rapid charger with Turbo mode.

While I'm at it and we're redesigning these chargers :-), why don't I propose another improvement: A bracket that screws to the wall and the charger snaps into it.

This would keep the charger secure when lifting off a battery pack. The electrical terminals grip with such authority that you have to hold the charger down to keep the keyholes from lifting off the screws. Either that, or employ an ejection system similar to what the mower has with stiffly sprung aids to break the battery's grip on the charger.

I know I would

Resurrecting this old thread. I saw a couple of SOB (some other brand) manufacturers have multi-port chargers and think this would be a great one for Ego to implement. I think the rapid charger is fast enough without a turbo mode (my 5ah battery charges in around 45 minutes or a bit less from red so not bad) but turbo mode sure sounds cool.
