Does anyone know if the 16" chainsaw can be used with the 2.5 amp battery or does it require the 5 amp that comes with the kit.

You can use any of EGO batteries on this chainsaw. 2.0 - 7.5 Ah.

More info..

The newer chainsaws scale the power drawn when larger capacity batteries are attached. The original Ego chainsaw doesn't do that. Look for the newer 14" or the 16" saw. The newer ones I've read have a ribbed handle instead of the smooth handle. The newer saws also have the bar size printed on the bar.

So with the newest saw with a 5 amp hour battery would allow the saw to provide a lot more power than a 2. 5 Amp Hour battery. I've seen this mentioned in several reviews by very reputable reviewers.

I don't own one of these chainsaws but I'm considering purchasing one. What I can tell you is that I've seen several references in these forums that would support about half the runtime.

But you should consider that if you use a smaller battery the saw will be putting out less power and cutting slower on larger pieces of wood. So you may not be actually doing the same amount of work per minute if you're cutting large logs.

Large and small are subjective to me.
