Disappointed snowblower isn’t self propelled

I sold my self propelled 24” gas 2 stage snowblower which I had only used once. Was a fabulous piece of equipment but too heavy for me to operate. I was elated to find the EGO. Ticks all the boxes, great reviews, interchangeable battery with the chainsaw I’ve been eyeballing as well and then... I noticed it’s NOT self propelled. I’ve had multiple back surgeries and finally figured out I can’t shovel or push any more, not that I mind. Pushing a snowblower sort of defeats the purpose IMO though I well imagine it certainly makes the task easier. So, I see EGO has a SP version “under consideration”. Any insight as to when there may be a release? This season yet or should I proceed and purchase a competitors products?

Sounds like a great idea, at least for us later in years needing a bit of help.

Time to hire it done...I'm sure there is a kid in the neighborhood who is entrepreneurial enough to do it

So sorry you had to go through all that hassle Bryan but fortunately Snow Joe returned your money. I had looked at that particular product also but after deliberation opted against it. I hope you have better success with the Ego! The reviews do appear to be mostly positive.

The Snow Joe Hybrid was on my short list, but not after reading reviews. Although there's no perfect machine for everyone, EGO comes close.

If it wasn't for the Snow Joe customer support...I would have been very angry at the company. But their customer support treated me right and prompt exchanges/returns...it was difficult to be too upset with a company that put out a defective snow blower. At least someone is trying to make headway in the battery powered two-stage snow blower category. My main point though was as much as I want to see a self-propelled EGO snow blower...it has to be done right. The Snow Joe Two-Stage SP was extremely slow and most EGO owners here wouldn't be happy with the slow pace you had to walk behind the Snow Joe. If in the end EGO can't produce a great self-propelled snow blower I'd rather EGO focus on improving their current non-self propelled snow blower. For example, adjustable skids and bigger wheels would be a nice start.

I hope Ego is paying attention, well said Bryan. And yes you have to commend Snow Joe for their customer service :)

Bryan...you seem like you were lucky...the Amazon reviewers are all over the map on their customer service transactions...as well as the fact that those who were finally happy took more than one attempt by the SnowJoe crew... https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-iON24SB-CT-Self-Propelled-Two-Stage/product-reviews/B01FN0XJYU/ref=c...
and even with those positives, the total percent of negatives out weighed them...:(

Ingrid, I hope they come up with a solution for you soon.  Even I would enjoy that one.

I have this product and love if for long drive on Lake MI.

One thing to keep in mind that i discovered. It is SO light that pushing it around is significantly easier than a big self propelled. For reference. i am a young 61.

Thanks George, I’m thinking I’ll risk it and find out for myselff, it has to be easier than the one I sold as its significantly lighter. Didn’t find any Black Friday sales however so the major panic is over :)

Unfortunately upcoming products are not announced until they are released or about to be. I think this is the same for most manufatures.

The lift wheels/skids are not included because it is designed for the scrapper to contact and clean the surface being worked on. It has worked great for me on my asphalt driveway and concrete sidewalks.

I do not find that there is much if any assistance from the paddles as far as propelling the machine forward. I had a toro when I was a kid that was smaller and had flat paddles. It was designed to propel the machine. The paddles were flat and contacted the ground. It worked fairly well assisting in propelling the machine.

As far as pushing it is very light so I say it is like pushing a shovel (obviously a bit heavier) but it never gets full of snow and I never have to lift it, so in the end sooo much easier.

Ingrid, last year I had some pretty wet heavier snows and the heavier the snow it became a little harder to push, nothing you can’t manage but sometimes if it’s heavy/wet enough I had to back it up and then go forward a few times.

If EGO comes out with something else I’ll buy it and try selling this one on FB or Craigslist.

Snow Joe has a Hybrid model for 40v or plug-in, but it's underpowered to be effective.

And their batteries aren’t all interchangeable :(

Where I live it’s very dry, not too often we get wet snow so I’m hoping it won’t be any more or much more effort than the shovel to push. It was the lift at the end of the push that was doing my back in though I didn’t mind how it toned my arms lol.

Ingrid Myckatyn - I am in agreement with your comment on EGO publishing their intentions and that it would be nice if they would include SELF-PROPELLED and the WHEEL/SKID accessory option.  I would also like to see an accessory AC-to-DC conversion unit that plugs into a battery bay so that you could run the machine in corded mode on AC house power in case problems with batteries arose.   I see it as a definite plus in my case and a few others that I have spoken to.
