I find it difficult to see the oil level in my 14 inch chain saw.  Can I add some dye to my bar oil to help see the level better?

This is a really innovative idea, Jay! However, it's not something that we'd recommend. First off, you'll want to keep in mind the staining mess that will result in colored oil getting sprayed all over while the chain saw is running. Furthermore, one would need to ensure that the dye is 100% dissolved into oil (like salt in the water, no powder can be seen), so as to avoid negatively impacting the lubricating system. The problem is that the addition of dye could result in thickening the oil and thus, reduce the pump's efficacy, possibly even blocking it. Again, this is a cool idea in theory, but not something that we condone.
