After I use my snowblower I press on the release switch, but it won't budge.  I finally hit it with a hammer which released the batteries, but sooner or later I'm going to break something.

Try just applying downward pressure on the battery as you then press the release switch.  Mine does this.  It is just tension due to the spring.  When I press down on the battery and hold it - then press the release switch - works great.

Wow, not a good situation; don't tell customer service you used a hammer.

Are you pressing the button straight down or to the side? Seems like a simple thing, but these buttons push to the side.

Wow, that did it!  When I press down on the battery and then push the release button to the side the battery is released and pops right up.  Kudos to Szwoopp and Ken!
Thanks a lot!

And it's even trickier with gloves on!
