After only 3 uses, the 4 amp battery isn't charging.  When placed on the charger after use, it begins the charging cycle with a green light, then after about 30 seconds or less, it stops and gives me the red flashing light.

According to the manual, this is an indication that either the battery or the charger is defective.  I've already gone through the trouble shooting, (inserting, reinserting and insuring proper connection, unplugging and replugging in the charger) with the same results.

I also noticed that while mowing with the battery getting low, the mower begins to drone out and reduce power.  On numerous reviews and videos, the mower never had a reduction in power when the battery got low.  It just shut the mower down all together without the reduction in power, which is a great feature.  This makes me suspect that the battery is defective.

Today is Sunday, so I'll contact customer service tomorrow.  From what I've seen on the forum, customer service has been great so I don't anticipate any problems in getting it replaced.  Just not sure if it will be the battery and the charger.  As the purchase is less than 90 days, I have the option of returning and exchanging everything, but it seems simpler and less work to just replace the battery.  Everything else seems to be working fine.

I'll update when the problem is resolved with any other information.  Just wanted to post this on the forum in case someone else has a similar issue.

Other than this set back, I love the mower.  My yard is almost 10,000 square feet and mows beautifully.  Love the performance and not having to deal with gas.  I've used the LED lights which proved to be very useful on those spring evening mows.  I even used them as portable lights without the mower running so I could finish raking.

I hope you get the problem resolved.  I bought mine late last summer.  It has been fine.  The customer service does do a great job; hope they do follow through and get the various issues fixed.   You used it enough times tø know if you love it or not.  I love mine.  So much easier to use. I have gone back to mowing some areas I had turned over to my husband to mow with the riding mower.  I like collecting the clippings anyway to use as mulch.  The bag holds lots of clippings too.

Called Customer Support this morning and a new battery is on the way.  I also asked for new clamps for the handle as well.  Sounds like that's been a common problem, (the handle clamps popping open) and mine's been doing it too.  I talked to a human being right away, didn't have to push any numbers to choose to talk to someone and my total time on the phone was 6 minutes.  The new battery should be here, (Washington state) in 5-7 business days.  Very easy.  She found all my information with just my last name.  It helped that I already had my products registered online.  She wasn't as cordial as I would have liked, but that's getting pretty nit picky.  Friendliness goes a long way with me and it was all business here.  But ultimately I got what I was looking for quickly and without any hassle so I really have no complaints.  :)

If your new battery won't charge it may be the charger. Give Ego a call:

UPDATE: When the new battery arrived, I put it on the charger and had the same results. Customer Support determined it was probably the charger that was defective, not the battery. They immediately sent out a replacement charger with instructions to return the defective one. Mower has been running great with the replacement charger. Despite the set back, it hasn't been a big deal because I love this mower so much.

I couldn't imagine going back to a gas push mower ever again.  I don't miss it a bit.  I'm glad you love the mower, you have joined the majority on how much you like your mower.
