Battery cover loose/rattles

I just purchased the 21" push mower a week ago and used it twice.  I noticed a constant rattle sound during mowing and found it to be the battery cover.  When latched, it has about 1/8" vertical movement and 1/16" side to side.  The unit was built 4/17.  I am surprised the cover doesn't latch firmly in place since the unit will vibrate by nature from the spinning blade, traveling across a lawn, etc.  The rattle is actually louder than the motor/blade spinning.  Does anyone else have this issue?

My cover has some movement to it, but not rattling as you describe. May be worth taking a video and contacting EGO support.  Yes, I too wish the cover fit more tightly as it seems to be the only section of the mower I'd describe as "cheap plastic".

Mine is lose as well but it does not make any sound, its not cheap plastic either its the same stuff they make Lego from and that's the best you can get. They leave the lid lose to allow any gas to escape and moisture to evaporate.

If you bought it when you say you did, I would take it back and say the mower is defective. Demand another one or you want your money back. Good Luck!

If the lid is rattling it could be due to excessive vibration. Check your blade balance and make sure that’s not the issue.

All.  I finally got back over to Home Depot to check out two floor models they had on display.  Both battery covers were very tight.  There is definitely something wrong in the molding of my cover.  It appears it is just attached with a hinge pin at the rear.  I will see if EGO will send me a new cover or if they want me to swap the entire mower since the unit is only 2 weeks old.

What did you end up doing? Mine is the same way. I though about putting some thin foam to stop it vibrating ? If I just push down on it while mowing the noise is reduced by half, like you said in your first post the rattle is louder then the motor and blade spinning. I've sharpened my blade and made sure it is balanced. I think the mower vibrates from the motor and blade and our plastic housing is not sitting right.

I ended up swapping the unit out since i didn't want to make a repair on a brand new unit.  I was also hoping to get a more recently manufactured mower, but ended up getting one built on 2/2017 now...darn.  At least the cover is tight and doesn't rattle.

Mine started vibrating but found out I did not check the blade balance, that seemed to be the problem but I attached velcrow and that made the fit tighter.hope that helps.

The mower has been working fine the past 2 years.  I think the battery cover might be loosening up a tad as i can intermittently hear it rattle.  Honestly its a rather flimsy cover with a very cheap latch design.  I'd expect a little better given the cost of the mower, but a piece of velcro is a good idea.  Where did you place it?
