Workshop Addict just posted a video preview of the new multi-tool:https://youtu.be/6kZOr_MrDm8Jennifer, is Barnaby correct in that it has a 2000W motor? If so, that's HUGE!P.S. There's no multi-tool category to post in yet. ;-)

Say whaaaaaat?

Alright, I didn't want to get overly excited until that was confirmed. Now that it's confirmed, DAMN that's gonna be one powerful system! 2000W is almost 2.7hp! That's Ego snowblower power in a string trimmer!

Please let us know asap what the bundles will look like for this kit! Hopefully it will include a 7.5Ah kit version, and a 5Ah kit with a Rapid Charger.

Oh, and tell HD Canada to stock it, and for less than a zillion dollars! :-)

This should be available in Canada as well. I can't confirm any bundles or cost until closer to the launch date which looks to be around April, 2017 in the US.

But the romantic coming from the shaft I am assuming is way too low. It would have to be geared up which would be inefficient. What you need, is a hurricane. An actual hurricane TAT. I believe that would satisfy your blower needs. LOL. You Crack me up

I think what AtomTwister needs is the leaf blower version of the Chrysler Hemi Air Raid Siren:

I realize it is not battery operated but perhaps Tesla can offer a battery and motor configuration.

There has been no mention of compatibility, I would assume no.

Is there an attachment you need that's not included in the five already announced?  If so, speak up!  This forum is a great place to have your voice heard! :-)

Industry Standard?
"Good grief that would be a huge deal breaker if they didn't accept the industry standard attachments."
Your'e  Joking???
Photo of (a)Typical Engineer

(a)Typical Engineer

  • 26,612 Points 20k badge 2x thumb
not joking; this can go down two ways: 1) Ego introduces the multi-tool head which accepts the existing attachments; consumers who already have an "investment" in accessories have a low cost entry point in the bare tool head. or 2) Ego makes their system proprietary and customers will have to make two decisions, a) whether to make the switch from gas to electric, and b) whether they want to abandon their existing investment.

the world is moving towards standardization, hopefully Ego did not make the mistake of going proprietary...
Photo of Tom Meyers

Tom Meyers

  • 892 Points 500 badge 2x thumb
There is no standard.
Nobody's attachments fit any other brand.
Brand X attachments only fit brand X Motor heads.
Typically brands will patent their specific connection methods so any attempt to copy results in an infringement lawsuit.

Kobalt was smart when the introduced their 80 volt string trimer: "Accepts universal gas attachments to turn your trimmer into a variety of different tools."

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-80-Volt-Max-16-in-Straight-Brushless-Cordless-String-Trimmer/5039498...

I have the 80 volt Kobalt, and I use it with universal attachments from TrimmerPlus, as well as Ryobi.  Hopefully, Ego has designed the Multi-Tool such that it can work with these Universal Attachments.  If you don't want to call that an industry standard, that's semantics.

Tom you are not only mistaken on the Kobalt front - there is a standard that has been around for like 20 years.  TrimmerPlus, Craftsman, Ryobi, Greenworks,  Toro, Weed Eater, Troy Bilt, Murray, Poulan PRO and more all take the same attachments.

That makes those type of attachments a good investment.  I have six tools for the universal system.

I asked the WorkshopAddict guy in a comment on his preview and he said it is not compatible.  So I bought a Ryobi 40v.  Happy with it, but would have preferred the Ego - their loss.

Still possible he is wrong - I hope he is.

The new multi-tool is a completely new design with the motor with the battery in the top. The existing trimmers all have the motor at the bottom by the spool.

Short answer, no. :-)

Based on HomeDepot US pricing, I predict the PH1400 power head, 15" STA1500 and 5.0 battery combo (w/ charger), will be: $399 USD

The last three columns at the right side of the excel spreadsheet show the price difference to add the battery (w/ charger) to a  bare tool.

Note 1: For the 15" ST setup, I used the $129 base price (instead of the 152 & 174).
Note 2: The 16" CS is the "best deal" to add a 5.0 (or the 16" CS tool is over priced).
Note 3: I didn't add the mower prices (lazy saturday, sorry!)

Blue Angel - yeah, just pointing out how the 575 still has a price mistake. Surprised it has been available this long with nobody fixing it.

And I predict the power head, 15" string trimmer, 5aH battery, and regular charger will actually be $349.

The new "multi-tool" heads should be available very soon.  We will see an announcement on this forum from Jennifer when it is ready for sale.  If you are looking for the newer string trimmer, with a potential for other add-on heads, then I would return your "unopened" box.  As you can see from Aaron's post, all the attachments for this new "multi-tool" heads are starting to pop up on Homedepot.com.  Like you, I am waiting for this to come out (hopefully very soon) - as I have my eyes on the edger, pole saw and hedge trimmer ... :-)
