20" and 21" Mowers - Head 2 Head

Or at least deck to deck:

The new, larger mower is actually within about a half inch of the stowed height of the older model. It's just slightly wider, but that's to be expected with the wider deck.

Anyone who thought the original mower's handle didn't go low enough, rejoice!

The 21" mower's handle in its lowest setting is roughly 4" lower... I'm 6ft tall and with the handle on its lowest setting my arms are almost straight down to hold the handle on the angled sides.

Holy clips! The new mower's clips are STOUT! They clamp into place with authority. I'll be surprised if anyone has an issue with them.

The 20" mower is a really well built machine, but the new 21" mower takes it to another level. When I saw the new model in my local HD I just had to check it out. I can see why people are so impressed with it, and I haven't even used it.

Just another thing I want but don't need.

I own both and will have to post my own side by sides. As stated above, the original mower was well built but the newer one is a Beast! Just manipulating those clamps is a major proposition.

I'm a little surprised that the top handle height didn't go up even the slightest bit with the addition of a third setting. The top height is comparable to other OPE tools, but the new lowest height is by far the lowest I've ever seen.

At the top setting the handle is a bit shorter than would be ideal for my 6'5" height, and it would have been nice if the added variance of the third setting had been distributed between the higher settings, perhaps with a slightly higher lowest setting. My wife is 5'2" and finds the now middle setting the most comfortable. Hard to imagine many are under 5' to find use for the new lowest setting.

On the upside, my 2-year-old is almost tall enough to use the mower now, and can actually already control it quite well on the slowest self propelled speed!

I went to school with two giants... a guy one year behind my class was 6'7", and there was a guy two years behind us that was 6'11"!

You should have seen the 6'11" guy trying to use a lathe in the machine shop. He probably would have been better off sitting on a chair than standing! :-)

Are there any different on the motor? old model vs new model?

Yes, I believe both the newer versions have improved torque this year with the self-propelled option actually having a stronger motor.

Based on user reviews, apparently the motor speeds up when under load to better handle thicker grass also.
